How to play DCS with MT in VR, as of version Steam Version: 1701825895 (5 Dec 2023)
Just bought a Quest 3, had a hell of a time to be able to use MT (for that NVIDIA DLSS goodness) in VR. As usual starting DCS in Steam VR doesn't do the trick. So here's what works for me:
1. Boot up the Oculus app, wear the VR headset.
2. Enable Quest Link. It links your puter to the headset via a cable.
3. Look at your computer screen in VR i.e. display 1, 2 or 3 depending where your steam icon is. This displays that particular display in your VR headset. Click on it to open Steam.
4. Still in VR, go to your library and start DCS via the library, with MT enabled just as you would do playing on a flat screen.
5. DCS will start... in VR. yay!
6. To make sure you are in MT go to the settings and if you see DLSS enabled (or you are able to turn it on) then my friend, you are multi-threading and able to use DLSS.
7. Now squeeze the juice out of that computer and VR headset until they scream.
8. Happy hunting.

Yes, but does it allow you use the MT mode (multitreading) thus allowing you to use NVIDIA DLSS?

I use Pico 4 with Virtual Desktop and it's doesn't work for me too. I run by this C:\games\steamapps\common\DCSWorld\bin-mt\DCS.exe --force_enable_VR --force_OpenXR. Even not VR doesn't work in mt. But if i run it by steam MT it work.

troubleshooting this with my Varjo Aero is exactly why I uninstalled the game - thanks for this thread. I'm not reinstalling or putting anymore time into VR DCS until they make MT VR a fully supported feature. This developer is spoiled by an extremely hard core user base that is willing to troubleshoot things their entire weekend off work - No thanks.

Glad I'm not the only one. I got a Quest 2 when it was on sale for $195USD, hoping to play (Standalone) DCS with it. Its my first headset. I now have no clue how to actually play DCS in VR as there are ZERO guides or videos out there on how to do this. Every video is about optimizing a current setup.

I'd like to play wirelessly, and obviously want to be able to use the MT .exe and DLSS. My system: 4070ti/5600X/W10. Where do I even start? Do I need Virtual Desktop or Airlink, and what is OpenXR? So far using it has been pretty plug and play, but DCS seems to be a real nightmare. Maybe I'll just get that VTOL VR game instead...

I don't quite see point of dragging ED through the mud over how Oculus/Meta VR headset and software are working (or not) for you.

I'm on Pimax Crystal at the moment and MT + VR works fine. Worked fine for me since the very introduction of either feature on G2 as well.

You obviously aren't reading what's being said. DCS is a chore to set up in VR...if I even knew how to do that as there are ZERO threads or videos out there explaining it. And yes, ED should have put at the very least a sticky somewhere explaining this, as MANY other game developers do.

You saying your atrociously expensive headset working fine helps us exactly how? Or do you just want everyone to know how much money you wasted to play games?

It worked with G2 as well, which wasn't nearly as expensive. (And back in the day of Quest 1 it worked for me as well.) The actual point is though that Pimax uses different software, G2 uses different software -- and they both worked fine for me very recently. If you can't connect the dots then let me do it for you: looks like Oculus software might be the problem.

And on the off chance the update broke stuff specifically to do with Oculus -- go to the actual ED forums and make a thread there. This is a Steam community forum. Sure, BigNewy comes in but you're better off taking very technical stuff like this directly to them.

Listen, stuff doesn't work for you, ok, ♥♥♥♥ happens, you're angry, I get it. But why lash out at people?

There's also not "zero" threads, there were always threads about VR on the forums... There's a dedicated section for VR bugs you should probably visit: https://forum.dcs.world/forum/442-vr-bugs/

A question - do you by any chance have WMR (Windows Mixed Reality) installed alongside Oculus software? I think there was a conflict between them causing VR crashes at some point.

Do you think I'm getting paid for answering you? I do it because I want to help you. It doesn't mean I'm going to magically pull the golden solution out of my ass though. And I'm certainly not going to put any effort into this thread after this post, but I'm sure you'll be alright with that. Good luck.
