Is there any kind of improved track viewer available?
I know about tacview, but I mean any kind of improved way of viewing the DCS tracks within DCS itself. The default track viewer is bad to begin with and glitches out a whole lot on top of that.

You mean something like ACMI tool? Or just the replay tool?

No there isn't, ED has finally decided to improve it. And added some small improvements in the last open beta. But still far far from useful.

Tacview is ACMI is it not? I just mean a better way of watching the actual tracks within DCS itself, so you don't sit there for 20 minutes at 30x speed (which is actually more like 3x speed) and then have the track just glitch out and end anyway.

You can't use the track for long missions.

Rules are
1. Short missions less than 15 minutes total
2. Simple missions, the more units and shooting that happens the faster the track breaks
3. Stay away from F14 and viggen in particular
4. Ww2 seems particularly easily broken now.
5. If you wanna use up 200+ gig extra, download the dedicated server program dedicated server tracks can sometimes work better (milage may vary)

I used track for one hour long mission. Fast forwarded to last 5 minutes to take this shot.

It is around one year old. So I think it was in 2.7 or 2.8. In 2.9 the replay accurancy was a bit improved and it is more working on improvement. ED states the replay tool is mainly for debugging. Because it logs everything.

Here is the whole flight. This one is not from replay. You can recognise that by in-cockpit view at the landing.

Edit: it was DCS 2.7.15.25026 Open Beta

From my experience the most important thing is the frame rate. It is (or at least it was, dunno how it is now in 2.9) coupled with game ticks. So low Frame rate also means not enough game ticks. That means the replay will not be enough accurate.

The best would probably be to have timeline in which we can move forward, backward, e.t.c.... Just like in Youtube. That's probably music of the future.

To understand what is game tick - One game ticks is one iteration of the game loop in which all the logic is computed. To make replay accurate you may need for example at least 60 game ticks per second. For fast forward you may need much more game ticks per second to keep same accurancy as with real time replay. It can be independent on graphics processing. But probably in DCS:W it is not. I have not tried it yet in MT version of game.

The track feature is ongoing updates. For now, the player/client planes is flying correctly as recorded but still work to be done on AI planes and other stuff.

Also note client planes weapon delivery is not working 100% on tracks.

What I've experienced: F-14 not shooting its gun, F-15E not releasing Mk-84....

Recommendation: Wait for them to fully upgrade the track system.

Client/player planes definitely don't always to that. Even after the last update I've had player planes crash into the ground just like they used to. Or simply fly straight into the dawn instead of doing all that i did.

Yeah...I didn't have those...it is still not perfect on player planes, perhaps. I thought it was for the replays I've watched, including hosted multiplayer replays. The F-14 is much better than before, though.

Needs time to bake. That's the bottom line.

Btw, thanks for the info.

Strange, in my experience, WW2 tracks are rock solid now. Got a few +1 hr tracks, and they were 100% accurate, even after using fast forward.

Last time I checked I had 140 frames per second when running it flat screen so I don't think FPS is the problem. I am also not running it on MT.

Is this single player or multiplayer? Single player tracks tend to work but multiplayer tracks have all kinds of problems. From things not spawning in to the track just freezing up and ending well before it should end. They might work better if you watch them real time but that takes too long. When you fast forward what speed do you use? That might be important.
Troll Norris Nov 28, 2023 @ 7:13am
I think the track is from the single player mission. I used 4x Fast forward. And I always do fast forward only in F10 map to keep high FPS.
