Viggen is very specialised ground and anti shipping aircraft. With a few exceptions you plan everything on the ground and then execute the plan and return to base.
No flying around looking for targets of opportunity.
This cannot be emphasized enough. If one wants to get the most fun, most engaging experience out of the Viggen, they need to be willing to learn how to carefully plan a mission and fly it according to that plan. Careful, precise low-altitude navigation is such a key part of the overall experience but it is very rewarding when you fly the module on its terms.
I'd say if you have the planes that you do then the viggen would be the sensible choice because it will add a different type of gameplay to your library.
Im currently trying to choose between the P-51 or the I-16 so, OP, I feel your pain.
As already mentioned, gameplay-wise the Viper is similar to the Hornet.
The Viggen is a Cold War strike aircraft, whose A/A capabilities are limited to short-range missiles for self-defense. It can be wildly satisfying to fly fast and low, hitting waypoints, and then popping up for a precision strike with glide bombs, Mavericks, anti-ship missiles or a rocket barrage, before GTFO in full afterburner.
I love both aircraft. I know you said you don't care about roles, but I don't know how else to differentiate the two. If you can only choose one, it's strictly down to your role and era preferences.

Sorry for thread hijacking.
I managed to break the wings off on my first ride with it so don't listen to me.
oh, that's right, you're a steam user. lmao
I was 1 click away from buying Viggen, but last moment I decided to wait winter sales to see prices for F-16, now i think I'll take them both anyway, but maybe at the same time during next sales
