If you are looking to eventually get the F-14, that will mean carrier stuff and that means you will want the Persian Gulf as it is the map that is best suited for decent carrier based missions. Other maps can work but the PG map is the most plausible due to its specific layout.
Considering the speed of helicopters and the size of the high detail terrain areas, you are not going to have a problem.
Syria map also is the best looking map in DCS, It now has an F16 campaign and will soon get another one. Syria is also the natural home for the Apache to play around in.
Syria is really tempting because I do love lots of beautiful scenery to fly over and it does sound great for helicopters. I wish I could afford both maps rn but I'm going to have to wait for the next sale to get a second map.
One reason I am considering Syria too is because it's on sale and the last DCS module sale they didn't offer any discount for it. Maybe they only offer it on sale less often than other maps or something so I should act now? Decisions, decisions...
I know what I need to do now, you have me 100% convinced, I'm getting the Persian Gulf first.
