Which map to get for beginners?
I want to buy my first new map. I'm trying to decide between buying Persian Gulf map or the Syria map during the sale, I can only afford one right now.

What I'm looking for is to get the most out of my content. I understand that the Syria map is beautiful and amazing but I've also read that there is a lot more content like campaigns and stuff for the Persian Gulf map.

The content I have so far besides the free Frogfoot is the Flaming Cliffs F15C and MiG-29 as well as the Huey. I also plan to buy the A-10A Warthog and my first big boy plane, the F-14. In the future I want to get the F-16 and more helicopters too.

In time I will get both but I just want to know where I should start first.

If you are looking to eventually get the F-14, that will mean carrier stuff and that means you will want the Persian Gulf as it is the map that is best suited for decent carrier based missions. Other maps can work but the PG map is the most plausible due to its specific layout.

Thanks guys for your input and the helpful information, I appreciate it. I think I will start with the Persian Gulf then. I have read that a big section of that map has big area with no scenery on it which is probably not great for helicopters which I also enjoy flying but if it allows for more missions and campaigns content for the other modules I own, I will start with it first.

Considering the speed of helicopters and the size of the high detail terrain areas, you are not going to have a problem.

Ameican carriers lay of the Eastern med all the time. There's like 2 of them there now. It's from there the navy takes off if they want to bomb stuff i Syria.
Syria map also is the best looking map in DCS, It now has an F16 campaign and will soon get another one. Syria is also the natural home for the Apache to play around in.

Very good points. The main thing I'm interesting in atm though is the map with the most good content (both free and payware) for the modules I have and am going to buy.

Syria is really tempting because I do love lots of beautiful scenery to fly over and it does sound great for helicopters. I wish I could afford both maps rn but I'm going to have to wait for the next sale to get a second map.

One reason I am considering Syria too is because it's on sale and the last DCS module sale they didn't offer any discount for it. Maybe they only offer it on sale less often than other maps or something so I should act now? Decisions, decisions...

Thank you so much @Lord Haart for taking the time to write such helpful and well thought out answers to my questions and your valuable guidance. You obviously know exactly what your talking about.

I know what I need to do now, you have me 100% convinced, I'm getting the Persian Gulf first.
