TrackIR 5.0 question
So after believe it or not, approximately 4 years of DCS, I finally got the Track IR system. It's attached to my hat. It seemed to wonderfully right out of the box. But one thing bugs me and that is looking up. Looking to the sides or down work fine while in game but when I look up I can only look slightly up without the camera going crazy & one of the green indicator lights on the camera going blank.

I exited out of the game & when I open TrackIR 5.0 software it seems to track looking up just fine. I can clearly see that it is detecting all 3 reflectors on my hat when looking up. It's just in game that it can't seem to handle me looking up. I've tried changing elevation of the camera to my head etc but it doesn't help. Any ideas? I read that you have to calibrate the TrackIR software but when I go into that program the best I can see are customizations for the system tray icon not detection sensitivity.

You'll want to spend some time and edit the curves. It's going to be different for everyone as we all have different monitors, chair heights, distances to monitor, etc, etc, all of which play a factor in tracking. There are several videos on YT about how to best set them up, but I"ll provide you the one I used. You'll get a better understanding for the curves and start to be able to fine tune it.

I'm heavily left eye dominant so I've even gone as far as not making the curves "mirrored" and making it so I look less to the left with my real head to look behind me over my left shoulder in-game, but a bit more when looking to the right. The goal was to have my dominant eye looking right at the edge of the monitor on either side, and be looking 180 in-game. Sounds complicated but once you start playing around with the curves you'll start to see what I'm talking about.

I also encourage you to play with the "Speed" and "Smooth" slider settings in conjunction with "precision" mode. I use a Speed of 1 and a Smooth of 4 with precision mode turned on. I've found that's a good spot for my setup. I can look anywhere I need to, and I have almost no neck strain. Precision mode can also help with the "shakyness" with human micro movements, no one holds perfectly still, and we don't want that to necessarily reflect in-game.

Thanks Gunn, wow looks like I have some homework to do. I appreciate it.

No glasses, not yet. Optometrist says despite my age my eyesight is still okay without them but should prepare to need them in the next couple years.

It was worth a shot. I had a similar problem with the hat mounted reflector and it ended up being reflections from the screen on my glasses. It forced me to get a IR LED clip.
its possible that you have some other form of ir light overpowering whats coming from the hat. is the sun shining into the room or onto the reciever? tilting your head means the intensity of the light going to the receiver is obviously not as strong as straight ahead. give it a try at night with lights off if u havent already

Stupid question.

You don't have a different profile set for DCS in the TrackIR software by chance do you? You can set different profiles for different games, maybe thats is why it only freaks out in DCS?

It's worth a look anyway.
