AMRAAM 120 Trigger Delay

G'day,
Just benchmarking here...When I use the spacebar or trigger to launch an AMRAAM there seems to be a delay which requires the spacebar or trigger to be held for about 1 second.
Should this be expected? Of course the gun responds instantly to the trigger.
Some detail:
DCS: F/A18-C ... any mission or training involving the AMRAAM
In controls settings menu for "Gun Trigger - SECOND DETENT (Press to Shoot)" either the keyboard's spacebar or the Saitek Pro Flight X-56 JOY_BTN1 respond instantly. Weapons Release is not effective with AMRAAM...no?
Same effect with replacement keyboard.
What am I missing?

Yes. It's by design on almost all missiles. Prevet accident missile misfiring in real life and in-game.
