Is i5 6500 + 32GB DDR 3 + R9 390x obsolete for DCS?
When I first bought DCS, my rig runs this game well in 1440P & 1080P few years ago. After several upgrades on DCS by developer in these past few years, the game now lags much whenever I set slightly more than few squadrons of fighters in the mission editor.

Say if I bought new rig i7 13700 with 32GB DDR , RTX4070Ti, will it runs ulltra high settings in 1080p with more than 24 squadrons of fighters well?

current DCS MT can pretty much utilize 8 core 100% if you give it enough unit to handle.
I setup a 34 AI units antiship and ground mission engage in combat simultaneously , big amount of missile and projectiles in mid of air all the time. already used 100% my I7 9700k.
A good CPU definitively helps. 6 gen is about 6 years behind. It's about time to upgrade.
If you not interested in 4K then GPU wise you can down a little bit.

I only play at 1080p now. Guess I'll have to buy new rig in order to enjoy this game. Else, the lag from slow CPU & GPU really makes it hard to fly especially when using TPOD.

I have an I9 10900k 10 logical 20 threaded @ 5.3ghz with 64gb of RAM @ 3600mhz playing 5120x1400. RTX 4090 @ 2925 mhz with 24 gb vram.

DCS uses nearly 50% of my ram and 78% of my vram (50gb). It runs my gpu at 98% cpu between 40 and 80 % This build is my finally happy with the performance + I have the graphics cranked up. Ultra widescreen with head tracking is a good alternative for us non VR players. Graphics float at 120 (monitor refresh rate). Heavy load of vehicles events and trees can still pull me down into the 40s rarely at times but usually lows are in the 60s-90s.
This is computer number 5 since I started DCS.

Got it, I can guess roughly where it could get me at 1080p.

i was running the ryzen 5 5600x with a 6700xt and 64gb or ram, no issues at all, a excellent sweet spot with price and performance. You could even find a ryzen 5 3600 or 3700x, 3800x will do as well.

I was on a 7700K, 2080ti, 32 GB RAM, M2 SSD. I found VR to be unplayable in the last few months. It had been acceptable. Upgraded to a 13900KF, 4090 and is now playable at High settings in VR. It seems to run well with triple 4K monitors, as well. Pretty amazing now actually. Sad and glad to see sim improvements requiring better HW.

Thanks guys, I'll go for latest CPU & GPU so that they'll last longer before getting obsolete. Hopefully I can get the F-15E DLC by then and enjoy the game.

I run it at 1440p with 24GB of RAM but it crashes more frequently these days. MT beta has improved performance but it's more unstable. Gotta say they need to work on memory optimisation even if RAM is cheap nowadays. 32GB should be more than enough for even a full MP server.

I think on 1080p that will be overkill but at least you can turn stuff up to max with nearly no worries at all.

I play exclusively on MP servers. 32GB is the minimum for DCS in my opinion (and I would say it's what most DCS players have). I personally have 64GB and it does help. I play DCS literally fully maxed out and I do believe that taking out a RAM stick which would drop me to 32GB would cause some problems especially on the Syria map. So again on a new rig 32GB of RAM is fine in DCS for the most part but you won't feel money is wasted with 64GB.

DCS is pretty good about being able to "dial" things down to run on a potato. You can basically make the thing look like "Asteroids" on the Atari 2600...

Thanks for the info, I only play on single player solo up against AI.
