as i download this and wait. i'm wondering
i'm wondering if this is the same version that is available on their main website. I was looking at their website and almost everything on it says it isn't compatible with steam.

should i cancel the download here and get it there or which is the preferred version or are they both the same?

also, quick question as i dive into this and seeing videos now on youtube. how would one obtain the f22 raptor in this sim? i don't see it on the steam store or even on their website but i see people using it on youtube videos.

To be honest, it is probably better to just go straight to the standalone version from the website. This is especially the case for new players who have not yet bought anything since there are discounts you get from the website that don't work via steam (first time purchase discounts and such).

As far as the F-22 thing goes, that is a user made mod. You would need to look up something like "DCS World F-22 mod" on google to find it.

same except DRM and all DRM related issue, and where you purchase.
you can transfer your steam library to standalone but not vise versa.

i'm going to assume that mods are only available on the websites version and are not compatible with the version from steam? or am i wrong in this assumption?

mods available on both

alright. cool. thanks. i'll give it a shot here from steam since i'm already at 75% complete with the download over the last 2 hours and eventually uninstall it and download it from the official site when i'm ready to buy something from it. i guess i'll use steam as a demo trial.

thanks for the help.

For steam version you have to buy addons from steam only
For non-steam version you should buy addons from ED store only.

Both the steam and non-steam version have same addons available.

Just keep in mind mods aren’t always as well documented as retail modules. They’re also limited in terms of accuracy, flight model, and at times are dependent on retail modules to work. They also Ted to require running the beta build of the game and may not work on the latest builds. Research the mod you wish to use and see what issues it has. Typically Cold War era mods tend to be better in terms of their accuracy while modern are more healthy speculation or downright fiction at times.

either way i'm probably going to need to shop around on amazon if i want to actually play this since i keep destroying my plane in the tutorial since its impossible to control it with a keyboard. i had fun watching my canopy rip off mid flight after the game unpaused itself while i was pressing buttons waiting for it to quit talking to me after i read the whole thing already on the 2nd tutorial.

Yeah you have to wait till the voice narration is done. Also some of those tutorials are a tad old and might not be triggering properly, especially if you have mods installed.

You're better off getting a basic HOTAS setup and one of the modern modules like F-18 as it's well documented and Chuck's Guides on it is excellent (Just do a google search for Chuck's Guides.) There are also videos covering just about every aspect making it an easy module to learn everything from basic flight maneuvers, Air to Air, Air to Ground, Carrier Landing, refueling, etc.

If you have enough space on SSD don't uninstall steam version when you decide to go to stand alone. The stand alone downloader automatically look to steam library and when he found DCS there, he just copy most data from there so you don't need download everything from internet again.
