Yikes. I guess dcs is dead to me for another extended period then. Thanks for the input.
There are many great pve servers that run dynamic persistent missions. 4YA servers for example are a good place to take first steps, so don't be shy to try them out at least once, it will def make the time waiting more enjoyable!
But if your PC can handle it, something like the entire Syria map campaign starting at one FARP and pushing Iraq all the way back on two fronts can be fun. Also, there are things you do, like managing the rest of the force, you can choose how much you want to manage, like replacing lost units, and actually moving ground and air forces units forward in the fight as you capture new FOB's.
So overall the AI ACTS as it should, it's just wonky sometimes with the placements of units.
Plus you can add your own "units" and name them, and also for flyable aircraft you own you can change and jump into an aircraft on a mission you aren't initially assigned. And, you can create a specific mission to attack a specific target you can fly (i.e. take out some scuds).
Overall it's well worth it to keep you playing until an officlal one is implemented.
The only real thing I had to figure out was where to assign the mission files, and how to fly them. Prior to multi-thread, you had to fly in your own generated server, and I still do that.
So basically the best way is to downlaod the server utility, launch your own server, then generate the mission, go into your active server GUI, load that mission, get it running on the server, and then go into multiplayer and join your own servo. Runs a lot smoother that way. (DON'T FORGET TO PASSWORD YOUR SERVER!)
Give it a shot. As noted, it takes a bit on first run to get everything set correctly and figure out how you like the settings, but after that, it's good stuff.
That's why you should simply just hop on a pve server like 4YA and enjoy a dynamic and persistent campaign online on your own or in co-op with other guys. It's exactly what you are looking for. Probably can't get closer to a dynamic persistent campaign experience unless ED releases it's own iteration of a dynamic campaign and besides of Liberation. Besides that if you don't like the A.I. then ED's version of a dynamic campaign most likely won't end up satisfying for you, too. So maybe even another reason for you to hop on a server and try some PvEvP.
I did actually get on the US 4ya server ( or something like that) it was a nice experience to just get in and fly and not have to orchestrate things
As I am sure you can all imagine it is a complex task.
thank you for being patient.
