Beginner Purchasing Stick - Left or Right
Am I left or right handed? It depends on what I'm doing, and what is my "dominant" hand is dependant on the activity. To be clear, I do still have a "dominant" hand but I'm new to this hobby and am only just developing an interest, and I'm not sure upon which I'd be more inclined to use. Anyone else got experience with ambidextrous setups or with a similar problem to me they overcome and any advice for it?

right sticks are much more common and most aircraft have the stick on the right or the stick in the middle with the throttle on the left, so most people fly with a right handed stick (im left handed and fly right handed)

The actual planes themselves being setup that way is a good point, cheers :)

I am very much left handed and while I did spend many years using a left handed joystick (or a joystick with a configurable left or right option. All that changed when I had to accept that there are no lefty HOTAS setups and there likely never will be. At that point, I forced myself to change over and while it did take a bit of time, I was able to do it and now wouldn't have it any other way.

Which hand do you write with? If you write with your left hand - get a left-handed joystick if you want. If not, get a right-handed one.

Speaking as someone with flight experience in aircraft that had me using either left or right hand on the yoke, it doesn't really make a difference. I didn't notice anything significant hang ups one way or another.

Either way, it should be easy enough to pick up, though I recommend right handed because you're flying aircraft with that layout.

It isn't exactly that simple. If you get a left handed stick, there are not going to be any right handed HOTAS style throttles that will match it. Adjusting to a right handed stick is really the best way and not nearly as difficult as it might initially seem.
