Tu-22 m3 In Dcs World...
http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=166332
Oleg Kovalev (3dArtistExtreme) and I have teamed up to create an ambitious Tu-22M3 mod.
Oleg's work (http://www.oleg-kovalev.com/) speaks for itself. I'm bringing systems programming and flight dynamics experience, plus an insane willingness to translate thousands of pages of Russian documentation.

Some highlights:

- The State Aviation Museum of Ukraine is providing substantial technical assistance and access to their own Tu-22M3. This effort would have been dead without access to the real thing, so our thanks to them.

- All four crew positions will be modeled to incredible detail, visually and functionally. We will accommodate multi-crewing during multiplayer sessions, but a single player will be able to switch between the four positions. The Tu-22M3 was specifically selected over other aircraft to allow a single player to take on multiple roles without becoming overloaded, or needing to be in two places at the same time during critical moments during the mission.

- 6DOF, clickable cockpits front and rear. Give Oculus your money now; this airplane will suck without it.

- Custom flight model including FBW, non-linear stall behavior, transonic and supersonic effects on the airframe and propulsion, and wing sweep and elasticity effects.

- A modern NPSS propulsion model of the 3-spool NK-25 engine itself, plus inlet effects like ramp positioning, spill doors and secondary intake door motion based on inlet physics.

- Extremely detailed systems, to include fuel balancing (like the Concorde and Tu-144), fully functional attack radar and radar warning receiver scopes, TV remote optical bombsight, navigation, hydraulics, electrical system, pneumatic system, modeled system damage effects, the list goes on.

- Two releases are expected, the first in July 2017 and the second six to twelve months after that.

Updates will be spotty, as we will be busy, and a website is a low priority, but trust us, the light is on at the virtual office.

Thanks to all the present developers who provided advice about how to proceed, and perhaps more importantly, the pitfalls to avoid.

Wow, that is super awesome. I wouldn't even mind if ED picked it up and sold it.
It could be interesting addition to what is flyable within DCS.
Waiting to see what happens..
I hope this project will end up well - we need more Russian planes in DCS. Also this would be first dedicated flyable bomber. Very exciting.
We also need more swedish, german, french, british, italian, finnish, dutch and spanish aircraft in DCS ;)
I would settle for a finished DCS...

Very ambitious project. Unfortunatly I have been around too long to jump out of my pants in excitement whenever a new DCS project, Eagle Dynamics or 3rd party, is announced. The number of lose threads in relation to DCS is so great that the entire thing is starting to look like a Persian rug.

I wish you good luck though Brian and Oleg and I really hope that you will land this project.
Disclaimer: im not a Oleg. I'm just copy paste this news. I think its very intresting ☻

the mapping technology (colliable trees, lots of ground clutter, far more trees to be drawn

In Nevada trees have collision support.

Whole thing about the new graphics and terrain engine was that you could get Nevada in the detail envisioned by ED. And the terrain engine was necessary for ground-looking radar as well (for coming F/A-18 module).

So there's many developments in progress, some of them are to address things you mentioned and to support new modules and so forth. Adding new modules is also the way further development can be funded so that AI can improve. Since the new graphics engine takes more advantage of GPU power than the old that has allowed CPU power to be used in other things like AI instead of rendering.

Various things you ask for simply were not possible in the old engine: multi-crew support has needed support in the networking code, for example.

Things are not quite as black/white as seen in forums.

Either way, this is entirely off-topic in this thread. Make a new one and look at existing threads first if you wish to continue.

Let's put it this way... If this Tu-22 flies in DCS with 4 player multicrew and all features working as intended in 2017 it is nothing short of a miracle. A two man team making the most complex DCS module to date in a year? Not going to happen.
I'd say 2020 is more likely than 2017 but we'll see..
One issue I see is that they are discussing pricing which will get them shut down very quickly. You have to be partnered to ask for payment really.

Well, license from aircraft manufacturer and agreement with ED to get access to their SDK.

Unless they have the first one anything more than a free mod is outside possibilities..
Exactly, I doubt they have a license from Tupolev so expect this to flop when they realize that they'll have to license or make it free.
