In these cases you need to configure port forwarding manually.
Not a big thing.

To do this I created a custom game profile in my BT HomeHub 2's Port Forwarding/Advanced settings page (found by right clicking on the router/device in windows/File Explorer/Network/Other Devices -> BT Home Hub 2.0 Media Gateway).

To play a private game that appears in the DCS server list, set the game as public with a password.
YMMV
QFT, port forwarding is an essential skill for the internet gamer of today, and really not that complex.
if you think of your router as your street when traffic arrives it would need to know what house on the street to go to. If the ports are closed then the traffic never arrives to your street and keeps driving past.
then if you have 2 routers daisy chained one must be bridged to the other so that it merges the two networks because router 1 doesn't know what router 2 is doing and only one of them will have the correct address of your "house" by bridging a router you are effectively turning off its address translation and acting only as a switch.
ok my best at explaining it quickly in layman's terms.
Please also note that in the link kazereal provided, there are instructions for the most common router models, sorted via manufacturer.
Make sure port is really the factor here, if you guys have version mismatch (release / beta / alpha) you will run into trouble.
