Rudder twitching randomly on Thrustmaster HOTAS X
On a Thrustmaster HOTAS X, I am getting what I would describe as rudder "twitch". The rudder appears to spazz out to the left randomly, even with the stick being perfectly still.

Is that a mechanical problem (stick was bought early 2014) or is that a driver issue?

Sounds like that axis is 'spiking' (erroneous readings from the sensor).I had it with 2 Logitech 3D Pro's with the rudder. I took the second one apart and fixed it following a video I found on YouTube. You may be able to alleviate the problem by setting a 'dead zone' in the software.Failing that,it's either a tear-down,if that''s possible on that model or time for a new stick.
Thrustmaster have their new HOTAS due out later this year,I have my eye on that for sure.

I ghetto-fixed it by tightening a flat slit screw on the stick side, locking the stick twist and now it appears to be fixed.
I don't think the stick has a specific programming software (I use the DCS ingame settings).
Do you think a higher dead zone would actually fix it? Because the twitch is spiking very hard, sometimes to max, and staying there for some time.

Also the new stick coming out, is it going to be like the X in terms of price?

If it's spiking that bad then a dead-zone won't help. Expected price is £99 here in the UK.

It spiked really bad for me too, nothing worked and I ended up having to get a different stick.
I don't have that stick but check calibration under Windows control panel somewhere.
On some devices that is necessary.

Second thing, check that there is no double-binding in axis assignment in DCS that might be interfering.
How far is it spiking? its important to set deadzones for the rudder so when feet are resting its reading 0 input

Same with the stick if just resting has it flickering inputs you gotta add some dead zone in dcs axis assign

Flickering will mean your attitude forever changing and bleeding energy during cruise or retrimming without any speed change

It's essential so you are not fighting the plane
