DCS World Steam Edition

DCS World Steam Edition

Startup/Shutdown scripts when launching games in steam
Well. I play DCS quite a bit and if you forget to plug in the joystick or to start the trackir before launching DCS then you need to exit DCS again and plugin the joystick/start trackir and then launch DCS again. DCS is a beast and can take up to a minute or so to launch.

I would like a feature accessible by for example right clicking the game title and be able to add programs to run before launching the title. So I could add there for example trackir daemon to always launch.

Would be great if it could also be shutdown once the title is finished since I tend to forget to shut down the trackir daemon as well :-)

Perhaps to be able to present a checklist before launch like:
* PLUG IN JOYSTICK
* START TIR DAEMON

To be displayed before launch would be enough.

It is just a minor inconvenience to restart DCS but it would be a nice feature to have to not have to restart it again. If the computer can solve it for me, then why not let it ?

Batch file creation is not a problem for me.
It is just not the solution I want.
I was also considering to move the .exe file of the title out of the way and replace with my own but that would conflict with updates.
I want to launch from inside Steam client, otherwise I would not have posted my feature request here.

DCS is not the only title that I would want to have startup scripts for.
Better to solve a problem in one place than to solve it for every occurence.

But hey, it is just a humble wish for a feature that probably will never be included.

Ever thought of a Post-It note on your screen? In all honesty I don't see a problem here. TiR can be auto-started when you boot up your PC and if your USB-devices are unplugged how is your system supposed to know you have them in the first place?

I know. But after I first felt how warm the TIR was running I don't want it running constantly.
I have since turned down the IR-leds and it runs much cooler now and creates less interference.

But just knowin how hot that device can get with improper config makes me want to keep it from running at all times. Never know when an update mucks around with settings.

I don't think Steam will ever be cabable of AutoIt like scripting.

At best a launcher maybe that does something similar to this? http://i.imgur.com/rg54I02.png

But again thats on the specific publisher - devloper to intergrate to a launcher menue not Valve and Steam Client.

I don't think so either.
I just put an idea out there that would be cool if they would implement.

But from what I've seen in this thread so far that idea does not have much support in the community. Guess I am the only one who would like such a feature :-D

With an SSD, DCS launches in seconds, even on my computer I built back in 2009...
