Using FaceTrackNoIR with clickable cockpit. HELP!
So I've been using FaceTrackNoIR for quite a while and the biggest problem I have is clicking the cockpit because as much as your head is steady your camera is still "shaking" a little, but still enough to make clicking switches very difficult (because your cursor moves with your camera).
Now.. I did manage to find on the internet somebody saying that there is an option in DCS settings, specifically in VR tab,"Use mouse" and when you check that, it supposed to make your cursor stick with panels not your camera. Unfortunately it doesn't work for me.

Can I make that work with FaceTrackNoIR?

Yes u can. Go to "Controls Tab" / "General Section" - make sure that "clickable mouse cockpit mode" = on. In game u can toggle modes with Left-ALT+C. I'm using facetracknoir aswell and didn't change any settings, so for me the mouse cursor movement has been standart since day 1. I double press my middle mouse button to bring up the cursor. Hopefully this'll help you.
Thx for the fast reply.

So.. When you move your head your cursor stays in place?
Yes the cursor will only move when I move my mouse
I don't quite understand how? For me it moves when I my mouse but also when I move my head.
I know you switch modes with double middle mouse button press. I can't really do LAlt + C because in MiG-21 that is a control for pressurized cockpit and that would eject my cockpit in mid-air.
LAlt+LShift+C controls mouse cursor on/off in the MiG-21bis if you want to use the keyboard.

Tip: when in doubt, look through the bindings...

Also, double-tapping MMB does control mouse cursor on/off in the MiG-21 just like in all other modules and it does not affect cockpit pressure. But pressing LAlt+C does just like you mention.

I know all that but I didn't understand how to make your cursor moves only when you move your mouse and not when you move your head.

Thx for the reply though.
The thing with facetracknoir (using it myself) is u gotta keep your head still. The cursor is allways moving within your FOV u can't go outside of it nor kinda uncage it from your FOV moving. So I understand your problem, facetracknoir tends to jitter around at some point your head moves off an angle at about +45°, what makes it hard to aim with the cursor. U just gotta play around with your curves. Make sure u have a decent lightning. Playing F4 BMS for example and when the tracking is not perfect, I get the same problems when it comes to the cursor. Another thing u could do after setting up facetracknoir curves to your personal preferences, u could just use hotkeys instead of clicking through the cockpit! I guess all buttons in a cockpit are mapped somewhere though I'm not too familiar with the high detail planes I'm almost only flying f15 for some quick action. If u have problems setting up Ftrack, then maybe u should google for some DCS profiles!
this is another reason I don't believe people who say facetracknoIR works well, what is your defintion of work well? constant shaking, inability to push cockpit buttons and switches or the ability for it to lose face half way through a mission and have your neck broken looking at your nuts for the rest of the trip (til you crash into something or veer off over enemy units)

for me facetracknoIR had next to no precision or ability to see my face in my basement, it was like skating on ice backwards blindfolded with a rifle for a hockey stick aka not really close to the real thing.

Please don't blame it on facetracknoir! If you're patient and willing to spend some time setting it up right, it does 95% of the job that Track IR does for almost no money. And if u donate and purchase v 2.00 it will work even better. It's not like plug & play of course, u gotta make sure u have a good positioning of your cam. Good room lightning and set up curves and deadzones for your liking, then it will do the job. I'm playing F4 BMS using Facetracknoir with a logitech c220 and I'm sitting away from the cam for about a meter and a half, 'cause I'm playing on a large HD TV, and the small jitter is almost non existent when daylight. In the evening it can become a little shakier, when u turn away from the cam at more than 45° to look at the edges of your cockpit. but within that 45° I'm perfectly setup with it. And adding a small light to my background would solve that off 45° shaking completely. And it's nowhere near a point where things become unplayable. So no, I really don't know why people had to spend hundreds of € for a headtracking solution! Tell me what u want but Track IR for what it does is just way to expensive!

Please don't blame it on facetracknoir!

What should we blame it on then? Eagle Dynamics? You get what you pay for and there is a reason why we pay a lot of money for TrackIR... It is the same thing as comparing a cheap flight stick with potentiometers and twist to an expensive setup with stick and rudder pedals using hall sensors. Both options will work to control a DCS plane but do they work just as well and with the same precision?

I have to totally agree with 1./ZG1_El Hadji. I tried tracknoir and other solutions but at the end of the day, nothing fairs better than the immersion I get with TrackIr. Yes it was expensive (£160.00) with the track clip pro but over the last couple of years I have had it sOOoooooo much enjoyment, not just with flight sims but racing simulators and even Arma and Dayz.......Dayz if it wasn't so wank :steamhappy:

You get what you pay for! Oh yeah...Almost forgot... VR. While others are dropping stupid amounts of cash on the Vive and Oculus, I am very happy in my own lil world waiting for the price to drop on VR and for the product to get better. £160.00 is a darn site better than £500 - £700!

Yup. VR would be the next logical step for me. But I will probably not upgrade my hardware for VR until there is a better way to control buttons and switches in the cockpits while using VR googles. When that is sorted - take my money!
You shouldn't blame it on facetracknoir because it's only about you and how much effort you are willing to put into it's configuration. And u gotta make sure u have good conditions to use it, such as a good webcam and enough lightning around you. I had the chance to try track IR myself and can compare each two and it's definately not like TrackIR would be way off world in comparisson to ftracknoir. Yes it's more precise at angles over 45° and u don't have to recenter that much, but you'll never come to that point that u guys try to bs on facetracknoir. Both do the same thing, they track your head movement. One costs a lot of money and the other one doesn't but costs time to set it up right. There's no Sim I couldn't play with Facetracknoir, even in BMS i can click everything with enough precision. So it's all personal preference. If u have the 150 bucks, sure buy TrackIR, why not? But if u don't then definately go with facetracknoir or other solutions! But saying facetracknoir is useless and it would not work as it should is just not true. Then u probably did something wrong in setting it up correctly, period.
