Track IR
So I'm also thinking about getting Track IR along with upgrading my pc, but what track IR should I get, is it worth getting track ir 5 for extra money or is track ir 4 good enough? As well as this are there any websites which you would reccomend for good prices, and should I purchase the pro clip which can be attached to a headset - i've heard there flimsy - or just stick with the normal one in the pack which can be attached to a hat? Thanks,

Get the TrackIR5 with the pro clip. I passed on the pro clip to begin with but soon realized the standard sensors required near perfect light conditions to work well. The plastic clip that is placed on your headphones IS flimsy but that is easily "modded" with a rubber band if it breaks. I have used mine for a long time and it is still intact so to be honest it isn't a problem if you are a bit careful with it.

Okay thanks a lot! Where did you get yours from? Amazon?

I bought mine from flightsimshop.se since I'm Swedish.

You could get a do-it-yourself trackIR for about 50$ total, works as well (often even better) than the real thing

I tried the FaceTrackNoIR, but it's really sensitive to lighting.
And the web camera has to be decent, with high fps, not a cheap one.
So I just stick with old school HAT.

Hop on google and look up "freetrack", it is a great solution that rivals TrackIR if properly set-up.

I've had TrackIR 5 for a while now. I'd recommend it to anyone. I have the pro clip. It's nice, but I would not get it at first. Try the regular hat clip. If you have problems, then go for the pro clip. Reason being, the pro clip is cheap. I take very good care of my stuff and yet it's still managing to fall apart on me. It's more accurate when you have adverse light conditions, though.

My friend just picked up a PS3 Eye (webcam) off Amazon for $8, plus the monitor mounting clip (sold seperately) for $3. PS3 Eye allows 60FPS. This combined with FaceTrackNoIR and he's hootin and hollerin about head/face tracking being the only way to fly ;-). Minimal set up according to him, although be prepared to play around with it a bit.

In my opinion, I'd go with FaceTrack and the PS3 eye first, considering the minimal investment. If it's not working well for you, then you can move on to $150 TrackIR.

Got the TrackIR 5 from Amazon with the Pro Clip. I myself have problems with the normal track clip (lighting..), so I would advise to the pro clip. BUT, like Donik said, you can't even look at that thing the wrong way without it falling apart...

Mine certainly was, but I have to admit, I don't think you can break it in any way that duct-tape can't fix! :)

edit: Btw, I know some people modded the Pro Clip to be wireless ( with battery tough), that way might endear it to some more people.

I just bought a used ps3 eye camera for £2 from my local game shop and removed the Ir filter replacing it with a visible light filter (bit of floppy disk film) and put 3 ir l.e.d's on my headset for tracking. then i use facetracknoir with point track protocol. All in about £5 for infrared head tracking :-) here it is in action :-) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TWGjtbBgeMA&feature=youtu.be

Track Clip V 5.2 Trackclip is what I use for all my "simulator" games including Elite DCS, IL246, Cliffs of Dover as well as Arma 3 and Warthunder , no problem with durabilty just attach to your favorite headgear and away you go -

Small tip - do not have direct sunlight onto the sensor on top of your monitor

Hope this is helpfull.

Don't have any sunlight at all. Shut yourself away. My apartment doesn't get direct sunlight into my computer area, but if the sun peaks out behind the clouds and I have the patio blinds open... just the increase in brightness is enough to make TIR go all kinda funky.

My wife hates it when it's a beautiful sunny saturday afternoon and I'm sitting in a room as dark as I can get it so I can fly space ships and ww2 planes. There's just no other way to do it though unfortunately.

I've just received my PS Eye ($9 at amazon)

That thing on its own with facetracking (without any IR / tinkering) works amazingly well

Not as good as freetrack with IR leds, but perfectly usable. Considering I only spent 12$ (2$ for drivers) and had to do absolutely no tinkering I'm really satisfied

Elo - yeah, my buddy was highly impressed with FTNIR and the PS3 Eye as well. I've picked up a PS3 Eye myself, just out of curiousity but haven't set it up yet.

My thoughts being it might be a good alternative for tracking in the daytime when the wife is home. That way I don't make the house look like a cave, trying to use Track IR.
