I am trying to play DCS on a laptop (Acer Aspire A515-51G)

Processor: Intel i5-8250U
RAM: 8GB
Graphics Card: NVIDIA Geforce 940MX

Will my laptop run it?

Honestly? Not really. It might technically start but it won't run well enough to play on even a basic level. This is made even worse since that is a laptop and the already very weak components would hit thermal limits VERY quickly and start throttling (making your situation worse).

You can give it a try for free so if you want to spend the time to download it and see what happens you can certainly do so but manage your expectations pretty carefully. I think it is pretty safe to say that it won't really work.

If you have the 4GB version of NVIDIA Geforce 940MX, then probably yes. But will it be playable?

Specially on laptop which will automatically underclock everything when the hardware will hit the thermal limit. It is called thermal throttling.

Next thing: the 8GB of RAM is not much. It can work but only when you have how to compensate the low memory. If your laptop have some stock drive like 5400 RPM HDD, it will be even much worse. You can compensate the low RAM but for that you need fast drive like SSD.

The problem is that is laptop. Laptops generally have problem with cooling. Because of that your CPU probably will not run at boost clock for 24/7 like very well cooled desktops.
