VR: Finger mouse or trackball?

I have a thrustmaster 16000m + hotas with lot of buttons but I feel that I should mimic only those on the "real plane" and use mouse clicks to activate buttons / switches: in a real plane you have to let go the stick or the HOTAS, right?

There is no space to place a regular mouse in my gaming chair so best option seems to be a finger mouse or trackball.

What is your experience with any of them?

I use a trackball and love it, I got just for DCS.
Logitech Ergo m575. Fairly cheap on amazon, came in 2 days.
