On the official DCS World web page there is now an option to try out every module available for DCS. Are we also available to try out these modules on the steam version or is it only for the standalone version?

Only steam version. Sometimes there is free trial of some addons for steam. But it was not there for longer time. Maybe because troubles with uninstalling and deactivating the free trial licence.

I mean, there used to be problems when someone in steam version of game used the steam trial key and then wanted to buy full version. First he had to delete the trial version from the library to able to play the full version. Which was confusing for customers.

How do I activate a trial version on steam? It doesn't seem like there are any free trials on steam. Maybe I'm looking in the wrong place. Me confused.

You can't. As I wrote. it was like "From June 6 to June 16 2020 the F/A-18C will be free to try in steam"

the free trial program is for the standalone version not the steam version, if you want to transfer you can do it through the procedure in this link.

Free trial can only be done on stand alone version.

Our trial system allows you evaluate all of our modules (aircraft and maps) for 14 days.

You can play each module sequentially for 14 days or any number of them at a time. Once you have ‘consumed’ the 14 days, you will be given another 14 day free trial period for all modules six months later. Enjoy the offer and please tell your friends!
