I only use stick with slider and keyboard, maybe I'll buy trackir some day :P
The other thing I tend to consider a peripheral (at least in that context) is my laptop. It is always handy having all my checklists, manuals, and even flight plan tools in one handy place.
This: https://www.logitechg.com/ru-ru/products/flight/flight-simulator-throttle-quadrant.html ?
Can you remove the screw at the back, so that you could just put it on the table, instead of fixing it to one?
For extra support I have my iPad for checklists and manuals.
Went with a sim labs px-1 for the chassis.
Gasp!
I have had the greatest idea in the world of sims since last Friday! What if you can buy one of those massage chairs they put in malls and jurry-rig it to a usb thingy, connected to joystick FF/audio channel and have yourself a full body feedback?

I now have bass transducers screwed to my seat and helps with the feeling of flight, just having some feedback helps, especially with helicopters.

Speaking of FF in general, I remember when they made gaming headphones with two weights that would go on your neck at the back, and fold upward when not in use, Sennheiser I think made those in 2004/2005. They would vibrate when bass would come through and the mic boom hid in this niche, so you wouldn't look like an ass going outside and just listening to tunes. Not only did they look cool, they actually worked. I bought two pairs (cause they were so loud, I used them as speakers on the boat… until it capsized and me and my friend took a swim with our phones and these headphones died due to being soaked in the waters of Pacific, so I bought another pair).
It’s good to hear from someone who actually used one, thanks Bignewy. You mean you actually screwed subwoofers to your seat and turned up the volume?
Well, up to a point. There is a law of diminishing returns but I must admit that there is a point where better gear DOES make it a lot easier to fly.
Aerial refueling with my VKB NXT stick is a breeze compared to my Saitek X52 or Thrustmaster T16000. Not having to use modifiers or keyboard inputs during flight with a more elaborate HOTAS set also makes plane management a lot easier. Having a separate throttle gives so much more control than a small slider that formation flight becomes fun and natural instead of a constant effort.
Skill plays a massive role, sure. But if your flight stick is exceptionally crappy then a TPOD-designated LGB bomb run could be super frustratibg and aerial refueling or bad-weather-landings could be borderline impossible.
I can't get over how cool this "subwoofers fixed to a chair" thing sounds.
It makes me think of only one thing.
