Su-25T, an old Russian attack jet somewhat comparable to the American A-10. Low fidelity (i.e. simplified systems, no clickable cockpit).

TF-51, a trainer version of the P-51 Mustang, but without weapons. High fidelity (i.e. full sim, clickable cockpit).

As is described on the steam store page and the store page on Eagle Dynamics own site, DCS World as a sort of "client program" (for lack of a better term) is free and with it you get two free modules (the unarmed TF-51D with full systems fidelity and full fidelity flight model) and the Su-25T (a Russian ground attack/anti-tank aircraft with simplified systems fidelity and a full fidelity flight model).

Beyond that, it is REALLY important to note that the point of all the various paid aircraft modules is not to collect them all to get "a full experience". Each module in itself is meant to be approached as its own stand-alone experience that happens to fit into the overall DCS World system. These are not DLC in the standard way, each of them has the development cycle of a full game and they each can offer months or even years worth of gameplay if you really choose to dig into them.

While I know that some don't like it described as such, the stuff you get free with DCS World ends up being something of a "demo" experience. You can try it out, see how well it works on your system, and if you really like it, you have the option to start looking at the other aircraft on offer and see if something catches your eye. There is no reason (beyond perhaps personal interest) to ever feel pressured to buy everything.

You get 14 days trials on standalone and your first purchase is -50%. If you are new it may be best to try different modules first in standalone,

Yes. Even more capable with the supercarrier:

Be the maverick pack at 8d8% off (currently 45% off but depends on how often they change the discount between now and now - this sale has been... odd).

Contains the F/A-18C hornet and some big shiny carriers to land it on if you're lucky. Note you don't need supercarrier, there's non-supercarrier carriers in the base game, but hey a sale is a sale and the supercarriers are neat.

I got he P-51 first. Then the 109. Then the Spit. Then the mosquito. Then the P-47.

No jets.

I still only fly the P-51. It takes all my time to get better.

You can try any plane you want if you download the game from ED's WEBSITE.

you do not have to use steam for this, and you are shooting yourself in the foot if you do.

I startet with mods, like A-29B and A-4E-C (Highly recommends that one), then Su-33 and after that F-16C.
