Mig 19 Crime and punishment campaign
Is this campaign effectively impossible to do now?
The missions appear to all be suicide missions, on the first one we lost 2 planes in the squadron to s-75s, on the second mission I cant make it out alive.
I suspect it was designed when the s-75s were more indicative of real life capabilities of the s-75. The current S-75s are far too accurate from my understanding. I've read a bit and they used to be very ineffective against fighters, and even against bombers they fired volleys of 3 missiles because of how inaccurate they were, and the probability of a kill wasn't even very good at that point. Also these are basically snipers, they get direct impacts with the missile rather than exploding within 60-250 meters.
Given the mission prompts I'm also guessing the range of the s-75 was altered as well, as they engage us in the first mission before I get a chance to descend to the altitude they want.
They also dont appear to trigger the radar warning that the mig 19 was given for the mission, but its possible that isn't the fault of the s-75, but instead something to do with the mig 19 or some setting I dont know to activate in the cockpit, aside from the switch on the radar warning itself.
I like the mig -19 but have a severe shortage of missions to use for it, as the campaign seems to be full of suicide missions at the present time. Has anyone else experienced this or am I doing something very wrong in the mission. They have me fly in at 10km to engage some fighters and scout an airfield, then the s-75s assassinate us on the second mission, and dodging doesn't seem to be an option.

S-75 reduced the USAF, US Navy and USMC air assets from “superpower” to “Oh my god we’ve just badly lost a war to a South-East Asian agricultural undeveloped country” in just about 8 years.

Whatever book you’ve read there about it being horribly bad you can use as toilet paper.

These bad boys shot down Eagles not so long ago. I wouldn’t be surprised if Raptors will be minced by them as well.

You got a source for that? I'm fairly sure an F-15 has never been lost to enemy fire.

22 November 1995: F-15J, 52-8846, of the 303rd Tactical Fighter Squadron, Komatsu AFB, JASDF, during air-intercept training over the Sea of Japan, flown by Lt. Tatsumi Higuchi was shot down by an AIM-9L Sidewinder missile accidentally fired by his wingman. The pilot ejected safely.
But you are correct, Sir. NO F-15 has ever been shot down by an opposing force.

I didn't say it was horribly bad, it was great for the time period, but it wasn't getting direct impacts each time it fired, it was ineffective against fighters. Of course it could take down fighters, but against all aircraft I have seen estimates that they fired 6.5 missiles per kill. I am not a researcher, I just find these articles online. 6.5 per plane is not amazing, but it does show how effective it is. In a war this was amazing, it gave the Vietnamese the ability to take out bombers and planes at altitude, There are estimates it had 30% of the kills in the air war. Maybe DCS is using a later version of the s-75 that is significantly more effective, but crime and punishment should be using an earlier version, given when the campaign is set.

Regardless of the effectiveness of the S-75, how is one supposed to complete the missions for the campaign in crime and punishment for the mig 19?

The solution can be an evading maneuvers until S-75 is out of missiles. When it out of missiles, it need to reload. The reload takes pretty long time, this time can be enough for destroying the radar, then it becomes an easy task to destroy the launchers, because they don't see you and can't attack you.

I'm not familiar with this campaing and I don't have MiG-19P. I don't know how many launchers are used in this SAM site. But it looks like the only solution if you want to complete the mission. Otherwise you can just skip the mission through the "logbook.lua" file.

Thanks, but it seems a bit too accurate for dodging, though my skills are pretty limited. Maybe I need to get better, but I still think the s-75 is a bit too accurate.
On the normal mission parameters(as given in breifing and as they direct you over the radio, you are about at 10km up, I usually found myself at about mach .8-.9 with no warning until a missile comes up and strikes one of us from down and to the front, one time I did see it coming when I was diving down to engage some fighters at about 6-4 km altitude.
