- A-10C(II): AG only, complete module.
- F-16C: AA or AG, still under dev (but yet fun and usable).
If it is a factor, F-16 is easier to learn than the A-10C.
All that being said, there are two factors at play to consider.
1.) The F-16 is still quite incomplete. I know that some will say that it is still fun or that it can still do missions but that is a level of subjectivity that I don't think is useful here. The F-16 is missing quite a bit and while it will certainly be complete sooner rather than later, you may be looking at a year or so until it is at a point where the Hornet is at right now.
As of right now, it isn't really able to do a lot of the things the real aircraft can do. That may not bother everyone but it is something that needs to be stated plainly regardless.
2.) The Viper fills much the same overall role as the Hornet. They are both smaller multi-role aircraft and while they each have their own weapon sets, they are more similar than they are different in practice. If you are looking for something that feels like a very new experience or something that will let you do things you can't do the same way in the Hornet, the F-16 might not scratch that itch as much as you might want.
In regards to the A-10C II module. The first major thing to keep in mind is that while it is still going to get some additions and such down the road, it is a pretty complete module overall and probably one of the more detailed, more comprehensive modules in DCS as a whole. This is a module you can very easily sink your teeth into without running into a lot of "that system doesn't work yet" situations.
The other thing about the A-10C is that it is very different when compared to the Hornet. They both can do CAS, COIN, and battlefield air interdiction missions but the A-10C goes about those tasks in a very different way. It really lets you dig into the CAS, COIN, and BAI missions really deeply and handle them in ways that are not practical or safe in faster jets.
If I were in your position, I would probably get the A-10C just because it is in better shape as a module and it is quite different from the Hornet.
But there are times when I just want to fly around and catch some scenery and being in a supersonic fighter just doesnt do it for obvious reasons. So I bought the Yak-52. No weapons. No radar. Just a basic very well made Russian airplane. And flying over the Marianas with it is absolutely Amazing. Just my 2cents.
If you want another new jet, I would suggest the AJS-37 Viggen. Different combat role, but alot of fun to fly, and it's just a totally bada$$ fighter. Flying treetop level or 50 feet off the water @ Mach 1+ for a naval strike is pretty intense.
But for me, taking a break with my newly purchased Yak. Kicka$$ little bird, lots a fun.
EDIT: Also, the Yak-52 is only $20 now 😁

so i guess neither of the two aircraft then! What about the F/A-18 ? Overall one of the best DLC models out there. more functions, better sound effects, and a hook.
He already owns the Hornet, as mentioned in the original post.
For the OP, A-10C.
As others have said, the Hornet and Viper serve the same roles. But do your research on the Warthog. She's a different beast, and much slower. If you hate the waiting times in missions when flying to the mission area, you won't like the A-10C.
i am ashamed that i didn't see that. so sorry about that. then the answer is clear: A-10C.
F16 is fun to fly because it is so small, agile and everything. but there's a ton of placeholders in the MFDs. flightwise it is too similar to the f18 that he already owns.
the A-10C adds a new experience to the collection. it feels a lot different to operate than the smaller jets, has more missions and most of the interface is corret and useable.
i went a10 but i need peeps to play with now lol
