Gazelle physics
Hello,

I've just started re-learning this chopper (after years)

I notice that:

- no matter how foolishly I may maneuver, vortex ring state never happens, as the powerful collective seems always capable to overcome it (I am coming from a five campaigns Huey experience ;)
- I can bank almost to 90 degrees, just like flying a Hornet, almost with no slip or loss of control

I'm sorry for the maybe obvious question:

how are these physics close or far to the real thing?

thanks

I don't own the Gazelle because of the flight model issues, so there's no way I'll buy the Kiowa until it gets a good look from the users. Plenty of helos can loop, slip, etc., but I don't think they can comfortably descend while upside down.

People like to post videos of the Bo-105 as proof that the Gazelle is fine, but here's a discussion on it from Reddit (and where I found my linked video above):

I even did a 360 degree roll and a vertical loop :)

:D this is more like a shortened high yoyo, I was able to do a full loop, like in a ...ww2 fighter

Hah, there's no way I'm watching a nearly 2 hour video from the Grim Reapers.

If the flight model is on par with other helos, why can you comfortably descend while flying upside down? Why does it fly like it's on rails without auto pilot enabled? If it's on par with other helos, why did Polychop literally say they're doing a "complete rewrite of all the code that makes up the flight model"[forums.eagle.ru]?

Remember, this is after they stated over and over for years that the FM was fine, SMEs said it was fine, etc. But now, they're doing a complete rewrite of the FM. They may never have said "bad," but actions (and in-game videos, not videos of an unrelated helo doing loops) speak louder than words.

People use videos of the B 105 because it can do things the Gazelle can't.
It has a rigid rotor which can take - 1.0 G and then relate it to the Gazelle which is completely different and can't take negative G.
I sustained continuous -3.5 negative G outside loops, in the Gazelle, whilst being told it is realistic and approved by French pilots.
This kind of nonsense ruined its reputation, which it never recovered from.
Videos, of Gazelles, shooting down F-15's, didn't help.
