Considering trackIR
So I've been thinking about getting the trackir hatclip but I have a few questions.

Firstly, does trackir have much jitter? I currently use a facetracknoir with my webcam and I find even the slightest head movement will translate on the screen, making it quite jittery where I often find myself struggling to click buttons in the cockpit because my camera is moving so much.

Secondly, will the trackir headclip work when attached to a set of headphones (with velcro or something)? I have wireless headphones so I'd rather use something wireless to attach to my headphones unlike the trackir pro headset clips.

It does not jitter. Only in bad lighting condition e,g. when the sun is shining into TrackIR camera. Also you can adjust the output in trackir software. Than means you can make it less or more sensitive in any axis and in any position. E.g. you can set lower sensitivity near the center and higher near edges e.t.c..

The basic Trakcir headclip are 3 reflectors those are mounted on cap. Or you can buy the TrackIR Pro clip which are infrared diodes mounted to headset. But IMO the TrackClipPro is overpriced. Check the Delanclip which is good alternative and also is wireless. Or Lukeclip.

Or this one is also very good and wireless alternative:

I use trackClip, which is basically the same thing and the same software as trackHat etc.
Works fine in DCS, MSFS2020, ARMA3, Elite:Dangerous. Very good investment IMHO.
The only issues I have ever had is about the sun behind me, blinding the camera, or very bright sunlight on the wall behind me, again preventing the camera from reading the headset. I have a hotkey bound to re-centre the view, but don't have to use it much. Apart from that it's pretty invisible, letting me get on with "flying and dying" ;)

I ordered a wireless TrackHat back on the 18th. Waiting for it to ship.

Maybe it's just my webcam, but I've tried FaceTrackNoIR and OpenTrack and Aruco Paper Tracker, and they are all garbage pretty much. At least in DCS.

I use the hatclip and would not consider using anything else.

Which one is that "hatclip"? I suppose you use a hacked PS3 camera to read the clip leds.
And OpenTrack software.

There are two options TrackIR supplies, one is the hatclip which mounts to the brim of a baseball cap, the other is the pro cli which is wired and mounts to headphones and costs more. I sometimes play using speakers and sure don't need anothe wire running to my headphones, so for years has just used the hat clip,

The advantage of TrackClipPro (the one with IR diodes.) is the diodes light intensity is much higher than reflected. That gives ability to set IR filter to maximum and reduce as much unwanted IR noise as possible.

The price of headset does not say much about the quality. The Delanclip set is almost as good as the TrackIR set. The main advantage of TrackIR is Plug&play. You don't have to setup anything or modify the game files to make it compatibile with any game. It works fine as it is. Just plug in, install drivers, run and play.

Yes. For someone who had unfortunately high light levels behind them, it could be the only option. I have never had a prob with the hat clip, and it seems superior in every other way.
The Delan clip is not much more than half the price of the TrackIR, but I think that you get what you pay for in this case. TrackIR is certainly the industry standard. If besides flying you do much driving games the price difference rapidly gets to be pennies per hour of use.

TrackIR works great. I would suggest the ProClip or whatever its called if you wear glasses. I could never find a good setting that didn't reflect off my glasses when it uses the IR light from the tracker reflecting onto the hat clip, it read my glasses reflection way too often. The glasses reflection really makes it freak out. With the proclip the tracker does not emit its own light, it uses the lights on the proclip instead.

Odd, I think I have never had that happen, as the brim on my baseball cap entirely shades my glasses from the tracker. My camera is mounted higher than my head...

Yeah, my tracker sits right at eye level. Took me a few minutes to figure out why it kept freaking out in game. Had to go back and select ProClip again in the settings. The view that shows the light sources was really helpful.

If you don't have some kind of head tracking device or VR, forget about playing this at all. It's that simple... I use track IR and it works well. Occasionally it jitters but not often enough to affect the play.

I've never had jitter issues with TrackIR unless there is an IR source behind you that is messing up the sensor. You can set curves for the head tracker to enhance accuracy with small movements of the head.

The clip should work on the top of headphones, but I've never tried it. It would really depend on the thickness of the top of the headphones, otherwise it's nothing that some tape won't fix. :)

I played this for awhile without head tracking, as have others. It's definitely tougher, but it's doable. As long as you're not doing pvp, it's workable without it. There's no doubt that head tracking or VR helps immensely, though.
