Make ground forces visible
I'm new to DCS and just tried the Create Fast Mission editor for the first time. Using the Nevada Map and flying from Creech AFB I could see friendly fixed wing aircraft, including one wingman, visually from the cockpit.

But when I flew over friendly ground forces none were visible. I can find them on the map when I press F10.

Do I need to buy an asset pack like the one for the Normandy map? Or do I have a wrong setting that prevents the ground forces from being see while in flight

Thanks, Rick

You don't need any assets pack. Without that you won't be able to even run the mission which contains the units form assets pack.

I can set up and fly a mission from the Fast Missions option. My one wing man, and 2 F-16's generated by the Fast Mission were visible. The ground forces were identified in Map View, but not physically visible from the cockpit.

For Troll Norris I don't understand your response that don't need any asset pack, yet "Without that you won't be able to even run the mission which contains the units from the assets pack."

What type of ground forces? They should be visible

E.G if you don't own the WWII assets pack (which is the only one buyable in dcs) you won't be able to run the mission that contains units from this pack. You even won't be able to join multiplayer server that uses the WWII assets pack if you don't own it.

Yes I do own the WWII asset pack, but am not flying a Normandy era mission. I used the Create Fast Mission to generate an F-%E flight on the Nevada map, but do not see any modern era ground units (HUMVEES, M1A's, etc) on the ground int he friendly forces area when I fly over them, even though they are depicted on the Map when I press F10.

Try to change their position if poosible. Maybe those are just "under the ground".

Just to ask the obvious question... how high are you flying over them? Ground forces are tough to see if you're too high. You could also try turning labels on, or if you have external view enabled, F7 cycles through views of the ground units (to see if they glitched underground).

Welcome to air-ground missions. They are hard to get an eyeball on but they will be there :)

I flew directly over them at no more than 1000 feet, and could not see them. The other thing I noticed is that after first generating the Fast Mission I could see the red forces icons on the map when I pressed F10, but they soon disappeared from the map view, and were never visible on the ground.

This is probably because you have the options set to hide the forces once the mission is actually started. Also, just use the free view option (it's somewhere in the controls list) and look to see if they're there. Or just put them next to where you start.

Also, like the guy said above - you may be underestimating how hard they are to see. Or it could be your graphics options.

Where is there the option to hide the ground forces once the mission is started? I can't seem to find a setting for that which is associated with the "Create Fast Mission" method.
