X-56 hotas binding question.
Hey all..

Was wondering two things. From what it seems I can not create a macros. I'm trying to double up some actions with a modifier key on my hotas but it appears It won't allow me.

Second question I was wondering is whether or not anyone is using the mode selection key.

I never messed with the 56's software because I never needed it but if it's something I would need to do to get more key binds then I'm for it.

Any tips or work around a would be appreciated.. thank you.

I wouldn't mind knowing more on this too.

For just doubling up functions, you don't need to mess with the X56 software at all. In fact, I would even go as far as to say that you shouldn't ever need to touch that software when binding DCS functions unless you want to do something VERY specialized and purely out of personal preference. I have owned a X56 for a good long while and I have yet to ever actually open up the software to do any bindings for any sim.

As far as setting up a modifier, you can do that in DCS very easily. When in the control screen, there is a modifier button on the bottom row that you can use to turn a desired control into a modifier. When you hit that modifier button on the bottom row, a window will pop up. It is important to note that the left hand side of that window deals with modifiers that only operate when you are holding them and the right hand side sets a "toggle" modifier that you need to hit to activate and hit again to deactivate. Generally speaking, you will want to only use the left hand option (where the modifier is active only while you hold the button).

Here is a link that will help.

Finally. The mode selection switch is generally not worth the effort required to make it work. I get the idea they were going for with it but on a practical level, the mode selector just makes things less efficient and needlessly complicates something that is supposed to be straightforward. There is no need to set different functions to different modes when you really will want everything available when you need it. Switching to different modes will just slow you down.

so what i wanted to know was if i could use a button on my hotas as a modifier. i saw that you can add modifiers from the keyboard such as shift but if i wanted to connect two buttons on my hotas to do one action how would i go about doing that?

Yes. As I explained. When you are on the DCS control setup menu, there is a button on the bottom that says "modifiers". In that menu, you can set any button or whatever on your HOTAS as a modifier. You just need to make sure you select the device you wish to bind to in the menu that pops up.

Ahhh... Sorry. I didn't see the drop down menu and thought my only options were the keyboard.

This is great. Thanks!
