F-14b max altitude
What is it? I've seen people getting it much higher than my own max of 33-38k ft (plane refuses to climb after that) so is it actually higher than that? If so what could I be doing wrong?

Doesn't DCS have ATIS now or is that part the server I play on?

You need more power. Do not climb too steeply. Just hold the stable AoA or speed and you will get yourself there. If you want to get higher than 60 000 ft, you will need to gain speed to get there. It is possible to reach those altitudes only for limited time, until you lose speed. That's why it is called dynamic range. Because it is not able to keep it sustained.

With afterburners, it is capable of cruising at 40k+ altitude fully loaded. You should decrease your rate of climb gradually as you get higher or the aircraft won't be able to hold at thin air.

Part of your server. Which server is that btw? I love stuff like that from mission builders! :)

Through The Inferno

It's not my server though and it may be linked to SRS now that I think about it.

Another tip is that if you let yourself get down too slow at those high altitudes, your AoA is gonna be pretty high, causing excessive drag and it's gonna have an even harder time accelerating.

Plus, keep an eye on your maneuvering flaps, as I'd imagine they are automatically deploying if you're going too slow up there. They will also add to the drag and hinder acceleration. Keep your speed over at LEAST 250 knot indicated, with 280+ being preferable, if you want to be able to accelerate without needing afterburners.

Tested at a starting altitude of of 55k ft, aircraft shat itself and was broguht down to 28k ft, was able to bring it up to 47k ft using clean configuration, perfect conditions, and 100% fuel and gun ammo. Afterburners were used. will now test in a combat configuration again.

I've seen just over 62'000ft in the Tom with a guns only loadout in very cold weather, but she didn't want to stay there for long.

Here's a few screenshots I've taken. Just showing some random, no cheat, no unlimited fuel max climbs I've done. These usually happen after a dog fight or something when I just want to burn off the rest of my fuel for the lols. The last two are just some high speed pics of the F-14B @ Mach 2.25+ and F-15C @ Mach 2.606 (wow).

You can't just do it in one climb. You have to climb to around 50k for the first run, dive, get speed, climb again, slightly dive so you can pick up speed, straighten out, burn, burn, burn... huge climb... rinse and repeat if necessary. I don't even remember exactly how I do each one, you have to feel it out. Just keep practicing and you'll figure out exactly WHAT you're supposed to be feeling out.

Actually, you can see I hit 97,532 ft in the M-2000C and 95,511 ft in the Mig-21. Both of these have engines that cut off at high altitude. The Mirage cuts off around 52,000 ft if I'm not mistaken. In those cases, I go right below the engine cut off point and just accelerate, accelerate, accelerate. Use fast forward so you don't cheat yourself out of a few knots because of impatience lol. Then, do a STEEP climb. Don't kill your speed in the pull, but also, don't pull back TOO easily on the stick. It's a hard pull on the stick... without creating too much AoA.

It's like anything, the more you practice, the easier it gets.
