Any Ka-50 experts?
I'd appreciate suggestions as to avoid the following problem.

I'm in auto hover, happily firing away, and when I'm all done I reset the targeting mode, deactivate auto hover and attempt to fly off in another direction.

It's at this point when I seem to frequently run into trouble. It's as if my trim isn't working, or it's got some other haunted idea and my demise in mind... and so I end up fighting the damned thing as I try to correct it - it's like riding an angry rodeo bull - it wobbles and pulls and throws and eventually I plow into the dirt.

I'm doing something wrong coming out of auto hover.

Note... presently the textures inside the Ka-50 are a bit dodgy since 2.5, I understand. The affect of this is my autopilot light switches are extremely difficult to see. It's difficult to tell if my Bank/Pitch/Heading/Altitude Hold lights are on or off.

I'm doing/not doing something.

(I've never ridden anything at a rodeo - only seen it on tv.)

The ka-50 will tend to tilt and fly backwards when in auto hover, i tend to stay the f*ck away from trim as it WILL try and kill you, i can hover the thing without any trim or autohover using my very steady hand and good flight stick. When coming out of auto hover kill off any backwards velcoity or keep aircraft oreintated in the direction of flight it was in during auto hover. with the resetting targeting mode you'll want to do that after you disable autohover. (especailly if you're using turn on target mode!) otherwise check your collective is up to about 85% to avoid retreating rotorblade stall (big problem for the kamov) I'd recomend the folowing strategy, 1: after firing weapons tilt helicopter into a negative AOA of about 15-20 degrees 2: once all backwards movement has stopped disable autohover and maintain AOA (adjusting collective if need be) 3: reset targetting modes to be able to maneuver into position for another attack. the ka-50 is one of the most forgiving helo modules in dcs and is quite fun to fly. my advice is to get the logitech extreme 3d pro flight stick, doesn't have many buttons but incorporates a twist functionality for ruder controll (if you don't want to buy pedals) otherwise happy flying with the kamov! hope this helps.

Can you confirm if deactivating the auto hover causes the Bank/Pitch/Heading/Altitude Hold functions to deactivate also? I am guessing this might be the cause of the instability - or some particular setting in the cockpit similar in vein to this - it's not just me suddenly being 'unco' repeatedly at that same time of flight.

I have a stick, an old X52, which I admit is past its' best by date - but that's not the problem. I find the Mi-8 much more forgiving personally. I have many hours in the Mi-8 so that now I have 'the feel' for it. And I've almost got the Ka-50 too now, but for this problem I have outlined above. The bahaviour of the aircraft changes at this time.
yeah when starting the beast up do NOT activate the altitude hold component, i call this the L rule top two are fine bottom left is ok but bottom right you leave alone (talking about the blue buttons on the right hand side of the cockpit below the radio control pannel) if you leave the altitude button alone you'll be fine. can operate every single ssytem appart from the abris (just use the map setting on that thing it should be it's own module it's that complex) also when auto hover is disabled or enabled the components are not activated or deactivated they're activated during startup. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Sah4lFrMUHE 6:42
i'll be playing some dcs soon with broadcasting enabled. will test flight dynamics with and without altitude hold in regards to after auto hover behaviour.

It's not a startup issue so much, but

that confirms it thank you. As I said, the lights for those Bank/Pitch/Heading/Altitude Hold buttons don't work for me in 2.5

Hmmm, so now I have no idea what the issue is lol.
sounds like a graphical issue... try checking the ed forums bound to be a fix there.
the buttons appear to take on a darker colour when activated
yeah lights aren't working for switches in ka-50 for 2.5 it seems...

I know lol
also that rodeo behaviour could be a result of auto hover not disengaging as it will cuase the helo to pitch up voilently to cancel any foward movement
auto hover seems to be broken, doesn't disenenage, light goes off but helo still violently rears up and maintains steady backward track when joystick is zeroed
i'll demsonsrate this for ya live, the KA 50 was a very stable chopper in 1.5 but now auto hover seems to be permanentaley on once you activate it. strange.
yeah i'm reporting this, it needs fixing ASAP

Ahhh. Hmm.....how do you know auto hover is staying on if the light goes out? I mean it makes sense, but... well... I feel a bit better about all this anyway.

I doubt I can watch anything live... the family arrives home any minute now.
ahh well i'll explain, usually in 1.5 the kamov will maintain a neutral AOA, when auto hover is on any speed foward will make it do a violent cobra and start moving backwards upon completing cobra. in 2.5 the voilent cobra occurs CONSTANTLY and it maintains a steady track backwards meaning either autopilot has changed or autohover doesn't turn off.
