F14 RIO searching for a pilot - why 90% decline the RIO?
Hey guys, before I bought the F14 I heard from many people "you need a real RIO to have fun in the F14" but now when I play multiplayer in PvP or PvE many F14 pilots decline RIOs to join the backseat. In PvP it's so bad that 90% of the pilots do not want a RIO. I mean c'mon...

I wanna fly with someone.
I like that RIO stuff.

it takes a lot to sit in that seat. RIO position has a steep learning curve, and takes some time to master.
Because noone will allow this to random guy. There is quite a lot trolls.
While this might be somewhat blunt, I think it really comes down to a justified lack of trust that comes from general experience with the community. I know that if I were to hop on a public server, I would never want a random person to RIO because I have no reason to assume that they even know the basics of that position. It doesn't help that some of the more vocal elements of places like Hoggit and even Youtube actively discourage players from learning anything beyond the very basics.

It is a safer bet to just use Jester.
Yea but c'mon.
Someone buys F14 for 70-80 bucks... do you really think every random guy is a troll?
It might be a person who just joins, make a mess because he does not know what is he doing and then leave the aircraft which make more mess. It is better to do some chat before joining. Both will need to comunicate with themself via teamspeak or similar software to make this cooperation effective.

Perhaps not a troll but I can't really assume that anyone who hops in the RIO seat actually cares enough about the learning process to be useful. At least I know that Jester can complete basic tasks but I can't be sure that anyone on a public server can.
If the server has a discord channel, hop on there and ask if anyone wants a RIO. Drop some key words that show you know what you're doing. I'm more likely to let a guy join if I've seen him talking on Discord than some random dude who tries to join while I'm in the middle of flying.

I've had good and bad experiences with randoms joining me. Whether I accept depends on if I plan on flying for much longer, the mood I'm in (sometimes I'm in the groove and Jester is doing well), whether I want to deal with a new RIO, etc.

I haven't messed much with MP recently due to real life, but you can be my wingman/RIO anytime (whenever I do fly MP again).

Not trolls, but many of them are definitely inexperienced.

I wouldn't allow random people in the cockpit either, only regular players I know, whose skills have been proven.

Have had the F-14 myself since launch, not a clue how to be a RIO. I have had plenty of friends do it for me though.

This is what TRAINING SERVERS are for though.
