I do know, however, that the AIM-9M/P5/X will lock onto any missile coming at you head on. It's saved me dozens of times.. particularly in the Harrier when I get into a close dogfight with an enemy jet. And, honestly, I usually lock up their missile by pure luck/accident and I'm just shooting at whatever it locks onto head on in front of me.
That said, I have only shot down other missiles using the Su-27 in that one mission where you are supposed to catch and destroy all those cruise missiles heading towards the coast or some ships or something. I think.. those missiles also show up on your radar. Typical A2A missiles like the AIM-120C do not show up on your radar so the only way to fire an IR missile at one is if you can lock it with the IRST. I can't remember if the Su-27/33 does that or not.
But these are bots so... anything is possible :-P
