I wait for the reticle to stop flashing and i have the c symbol and fire while the countdown is going down i was firing about 300m agl (also what does the countdown indicate as it gets to about 20 and says pause or "too late" im aware that it is the cool down but it seems a bit random when the cool down initiates
try increasing the altitude and range to target to help the missile find the laser. approach slow, hover then track the target with the shkval. once the shkval is tracking the target and you have the Kh-25 selected then and only then fire the laser so it doesn't burn out. check the HUD to see if there are positional changes you need to make (like lining up the circles on VIKHR). With all that done the missile should find the laser and the shkval will display LA. Once you have that, fire
I have a bind to the laser reset button (beneath the HSI) that I hit after firing a vikhr to skip that laser cooldown period. I use that a LOT to stop the laser from firing. It only has a certain amount of time and then the laser burns out and you have to repair the aircraft. So... if you use the laser too much, you can burn it out before you even fire off all 12x vikhrs.

Page 4-3 has all the HUD symbology if you have it in Russian. I set my HUD to English, but either way.. you can figure it out.
The KH-25 lofts so, you don't want to be too close. Just curious, what range are you firing it from?
If it's really due to the laser not staying on long enough, try this: When you're in position and ready.. right before you fire, lock the target one more time to initiate the laser rangefinder so it knows the true distance and that should let it know how long it really needs to leave the laser on. Fire it right after you do that final lock while the laser is active.
