The client is free so give it a chance but do not expect to play Ace Combat.
But anyway you have to read manuals for each airplane to learn about it's weapons, sensors and other systems (the F-15C by the way is very hard to land). So there is no mod for simplified physics because the purpose of this game is simulation. Even if you choose the simplified fly model in options it still behave much more realistic than any arcade fly simulator. And you have to learn the air to air combat tactics. It is not so easy to shoot down enemy airplane in this game especially when there is more then one enemy and air defence systems on the ground. The air to ground is also not so easy.
Bottom line, this game is for people that really like military airplanes and want to learn about their systems. Because it is really very interesting. When you get into it you will enjoy it. It is hard in the beggining but when you start to understand the airplane behaviour and it's systems it start getting more and more enjoyable.
Anyway if you looking for simple flying game maybe it is better for you to check the "Ace combat".
What you can do is get some planes that are simple and have only a few systems.
Do not buy the high-fidelity planes. That's the exact oppisite of what you look for.
it's very good for just flying around
Yeah I like Ace Combat but really like how deep DCS looks and the wealth of scenarios. Ideally my limit is Air Realistic Battles on War Thunder in terms of controls.
Well, this game has much more simulation then "Ace combat" ot "War thunder". Even that "War thunder" is positioned like simulator, it is not. DCS have much more realistic flight model and it is even simulates the atmosphere layers. So if you flight high it is harder to keep airspeed and manuver, but you can consume fuel for example. On other hand if missle attaks you it is better to get lower, because missiles like thin atmosphere layers were they can easily manuver.
So there is a lot to learn in this game, not only about airplane but also about air to air and air to ground tactics.
For example I was flying SU-33 yesterday, I never flyed it before, so I didn't knew wich tactics I need to use on this airplane to evade enemy missiles, especially AIM-120C. So I was always shot down. Then I just went to youtube and started watching about anti-missle manuvers. Today I've tried it and I had much more luck then yesterday. I was even able to shoot a couple of bandids after evading their missiles. Now I even realized that anti-missile manuvers I used before were less effective than a new one I'we learned.
So this game is not an easy one. It is very hard, because there is no skills of your pilot that you can upgrade, like in RPG or RP-ACTION games. The only skills in this game, are your skills. The more you flying, the more skilled you get.
And it is very important to buy at least a joystick for this game. Without it it is impossible to play. It is better to buy a joystick, H.O.T.A.S. and pedals, but you can also play with joystick and keyboard only. Joystick is a must for this game!
All i can tell you is that there is an easy mode, however learning in DCS is part of the fun at least for me. Difficulty is relative, i suggest you do use a plane that you have an interest in. No matter how difficult people say it is , when you like it, you will learn it.
There is alot to learn, get to it and enjoy to fly.
