using a tv as a monitor
Hi, I am thinking of buying a new tv to use as a monitor to go with a bigger screen. My computer specs are Intel Core i7 - 16GB Memory - NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1080 - 1TB Hard Drive + 240GB Solid State Drive , and I have trackir. I am currently using an ASUS - MG28UQ 28" LED 4K UHD Monitor. I was wondering if anyone that is using a tv had any recommendations as far as specs and size and what they are using. Thanks, Jeff.

Is this a flex or something?

The specs doesn't have anything with the resolution to do as long as you have a descent graphics card, but if you have a 1080 then it should be the same as on any monitor or TV.

It all depends on the screen resoluton. Not on the screen size.

Of course you can play on an UHD TV.
I know that some of the most popular DCS Youtubers use TVs in combination with TrackIR.

People use TVs because they are big like 60". No problem in DCS.

TV's tend to have higher latency, which can be quite bad depending on the TV, I'd suggest you do a little research on the subject and check the latency of the TV you are looking at.

Latency is not a very big problem in simulations like DCS. I've played DCS with the Oculus Quest via Virtual Desktop and had about ~27ms latency over wifi and have not felt anything while in other games like Half-Life:Alyx the latency was noticeable.

Most TVs have a gaming mode which brings you below 10ms.
I'd say eveything up to 50ms will feel good enough, less is better.
Has to be said that there are TVs that can have like 100ms latency which will probably be highly noticeable.

TVs aren't meant to be used with computers. Most of them while they are larger than typical monitors, don't have the same pixels per square inch. The result looks crap. Or if they do have the pixels the computer's graphics card can't handle so many pixels as well.

It depends only on distance between you and TV.

Im using an old LG 42 inch TV as another much newer $am$ung monitor failed just after the warrenty expired.
It seems to be a thing with $am$ung... This TV has had more use (on time) and has out lasted 2 samshite monitors.

I have a 75" Samsung 4K on my older rig with a 1070. The PC is probably 1st or 2nd gen I7 with 16GB RAM. It has a low refresh and can sometimes produce artifacts; I think tearing. Not too badly though. Picture looks fine with MS Flight Simulator X with REX. I've played Total War and other games to include DCS, IL2, Assetto Corsa, and Euro Truck Simulator on it and it has been enjoyable. I mainly keep it for X-Wing Alliance, as I have most of the mods I want installed on that PC.

I'd recommend an OLED LG C9. If you want to go that route. However, a large super ultra-wide 4K monitor is what you're probably looking for. I have a triple monitor set-up with my main rig and I prefer it over a 75 inch display.

ive been using my TV as a monitor for years. just plug the PC into the HDMI socket on the TV. used a samsung1080P 3D tv for it for 8 years and had a 3D converter on the TV so played all my games in 3D. now ive got a 4K TV and everything still works fine except no 3D now.

Not many TV's have DVI or DP sockets so u most likely need an HDMI socket on the graphics card to connect it or get a convertor from DVI or DP to HDMI.

Or do what i do Plug the PC via HDMI into a Audio video receiver then from there into the TV to get even better sound.
The graphics card wont make much diff to what u see on the TV screen but if ur going for a 4K TV u might want to invest in an RTX graphics card as thats better at 4K than the GTX cards.

My current rig has a ryzen 9 3900x. 64GB ram and an RTX 2080TI OC and i cant see much diff graphics wise on the TV than my old rig which was a ryzen 5 1600x 8GB RAM and a GTX 1050TI. but games run a lot better and 4K vids on youtube look a lot clearer.

Did try a LG 4K tv put that packed up after 2 months replacement lasted 3 weeks before packing up. so went for a linsar which is far better and cheaper than LG and also had really bad screen burn which OLEDS r very well known for and not recommened for use as Monitors.
