The steam incompatible means that you cant transver modules bought in the DCS e store to steam but you can transver modules bought on steam to the standalone version
You dont have disadvantages playing the standalone version as long as you can live with the fact that the DCS e store only accepts pay pal and credit kard but you have the advantage of having more flexible sales than on steam
Everything is still on sale on the ED site and will be until the 18th. You do also get the ED bucks or whatever they're called, and that sweetens the deal a bit (makes up for the exchange rate difference for me from Steam to ED). It was a seamless transition to move over, and I was playing DCS on Steam ever since DCS became a thing here.
ah makes sense.
i thought getting the standalone version would mean we cant play together.
thanks for clearing it up
I know this is old but checking to see if anything has changed on how this works and just to clarify some things.
So if I own all my stuff on Steam you can transfer to stand alone still?
If I did transfer does that mean I wouldnt use steam anymore to play?
What are the pro's and con's between the two...steam vs DCS e-store?
I havent played in a long time until recently so Im not in the know of how all this works..can be confusing.
Yes, you can transfer all your modules and purchases for DCS to their own store.
Advantages:
-Free trials of all modules via the in-game module manager
-Cheaper purchases
-Earn rewards for purchases
-Sales are usually on for longer and more frequently
-You are supporting ED directly without giving Steam a cut (so helps ED more financially)
-Pre-purchases have always been far sooner on ED Store
Disadvantages:
-You have to manually update by either running the updater, or loading DCS and then accepting the update, whereas Steam will manage your updates in the background white you are AFK etc (as long as Steam is running of course)
EDIT: forgot to answer the other part of your question: You will then typically uninstall your Steam version and use the standalone
Thanks.
So other than the way you launch and update the game, nothing really changes. All online servers play together between standalone and steam still.
Should have looked into this before I just purchased the F18 module...lol.
Yep. That is all!
Even though you have just bought something, you can transfer it over using the tool on ED's store login under your profile somewhere. ED have a sticky about this here on Steam, just follow those very simple instructions.
Yeah saw something about that, might give it a go.
Thanks
