there is a F4E planned, but it will be a late post Vietnam USAF variant, and it probably won't be released before at least 4 years
DCS is free to download, and you will be able to fly with 2 free plane
even if it doesn 't fit all your requirement, you may try it
4 years haha OK. Seems a sim is harder to build than the actual aircraft :)
I really am looking for a Vietnam era game, but I might try DCS eventually.
I'm a little bit put off by 20 minute pre flight checks and every button in the cockpit actually working. It's a little hard core for my preferences.
the free su-25t is fc-3 "level"
those planes are started with 2 keys
and even the "true" modules have auto-start and auto-shutdown if you want ( you can try that in the free tf-51 )
Interesting. So the hard core aspect is not down to the game itself but how hard core the plane is made? The su-25t sounds pretty good.
Is there a campaign? Or is it more multi player pvp oriented?
there are regular "mission 1 completed => mission 2 available" free campaign for most modules, the su-25t have several of them, and some modules have additionnal DLC campaigns
you have instant missions, full single missions, training missions ( even if a few are only cinematics, not the su25t ones ), a very extensive mission editor, with quick mission planner option...
a lot of mission / campaign are available for download on the web
( you can actually find, open, and save all the campaign mission into single mission with the ME, in case you don't like campaign, or if you can't complete one of the missions for some reasons... )
there are PvP ( "conquest campaign", "realistic single mission", quick dogfights...), PvE ( training, mission against AI... ), aerobatic server... WW2, early Cold war, mid cold war, late, early 2000s era servers...
OK thanks.
By the way, isn't there already an F16 variant in game?
Funny how Vietnam was just skipped in DCS. Was there a particular reason for that?
I'd love to see F4 Phantoms, A4s, A7 Corsairs, A6 Intruders.
And of course the Mig 15s, 17s, 21s.
My favorite game as a kid was USNF 97 and I haven't seen anything like it since.
Too bad, miss that great old game!
OK thanks for the information.
I think I'll try the su-25t and see how it goes.
There's no flyable F-16 right now, only AI can use them.
I wouldn't say, Vietnam was skipped. It's not like DCS sticks to a timeline or something like this. We have WW2 birds (like the Spit, Kurfürst and so on), some Korea related stuff like the Mig-15 or the Saber, there's also Nam related crafts, like the Mig-21 or the Huey and so on. It's not like DCS depicts a certain time or area.
Well if you have a Mig 15 and a Mig 21, all you need is a F4 Phantom and you have working Vietnam era campaigns :)
nah F-16 shares alot of systems with the F/A-18. they were even in the same competition for the Air force/Navy
The F-4 we are going to get is post Vietnam era upgraded F-4E. I am hoping for naval version of F4 where we'd get a fun carrier jet with no HUD symbology to help...
Just...maybe if they'd go for a combo like the Heatblur F-14 being released in 2 versions.
It'd take at least 2 years estimate for the F-4 project to even start.
