Logitech x56 Rhino
I really want to get into playing this game, but the last time I tried it, my joystick went all wonky. I had a hard time trying to configure it, so I was wondering if there is a preset out there for my Logitech x56. If so, I will actually spend some cold hard loonies on some planes and start actually getting into this as I love flight sims. I just haven't really played any in many many years. I mainly play Elite Dangerous with my x56, and that was a breeze setting up, but for some reason I had a ♥♥♥♥♥ of a time trying to set up DCS the last time I had this installed. So if anyone knows of an easy way to setup my HOTAS, or if there is a profile that I can download somewhere that will at least give me a starting point, I would love you forevers. I grew up on games like Jane's ATF and Aces over Europe and Aces of the Pacific, so I abosolutely love flight sims, I just haven't played a good one really since the original IL-2 Sturmovik. I also need to get my TrackHat working as well, but that should be fairly simple, I hope?

I've had it for 6 or 7 months and have had zero issues with it. I've got probably 500 hours on it now as well, so I don't know how you can say it's the "worst stick in the world". I know people have had trouble with it, but there's also lots of people who have had no problems with it. Just like lots of hardware out there. There are flaws with all products. The Warthog isn't flawless, just as the x56 isn't flawless.

And NineLine, thank you for an actual helpful answer.

I have the X55 that is very similar to the X56.
I am happy about my joystick.

My friends have the X56 and only thing they complain a little about is the programming software that they had issues with.
And if you have small hands then actual most joysticks on the market is rather tall, and it can be diffcult to reach the top POV buttons.
Personaly my x55 software that by the way should be pretty much identical i never had any issues with and i have made profiles for all helis and many planes in dcs for my own usage.

I would say the X56 is a good joystick that you should consider buying even though some people had a few problems and so on.. ( all people have sometimes problems with even the most expensive joysticks and their software ect.. )
Just saying the x56 is good, and you get all you need for the money.

Personaly I am using the most soft spring so the joystick is smooth... and i even took an angle grinder and cut off some of the spring to make it even more smooth since i like it that way.

And by the way im much better to airrefuel and formation flying than people i know who own the best and most expensive gear on the market with my +5 year old x55 joystick that are not 100% precise anymore ;-)

I believe you have. I mean yeah, it's certainly not perfect, as there are defintely stories out there with people having similar problems with it. Like I said, all hardware will have problems. Not all joysticks come off the line 100% perfect. Your Warthog will have flaws, just like my Rhino will have flaws. Quality control isn't always the greatest. 1 out of every 10,000 joystick made will have some sort of problem. The issue with that though is that someone online will post about it and then that will snowball into everyone assuming that the entire line of joysticks being crap. But my experience with it has been nothing but pure joy. Aside from my initial experience with DCS, but that was more down to my incompetence and impatience.

I agree, the software isn't the greatest, but it's also not the worst. I wish they had just used the software from the G29 and the mice that they use. And the G920 camera, and so on. I don't know why they had to use separate software for the Rhino, it really doesn't make any logical sense. They should've integrated the software all into one. That being said though, once you poke around in it, the software really isn't all that bad. It just takes some getting used to. I'm able to map keyboard keys to buttons on the joystick and throttle, set curves, change modes, all that jazz all through the software - if needed. However I usually just use the in-game mapping. But, honestly, I've really only used my x56 in Elite Dangerous so far. I hate saying that. I spent $500 Canadian on a HOTAS and really only used it for one game so far. Aside from using the throttle as a button-box in American Truck Simulator and Euro Truck Simulator 2 that is. This is why I really want to try and get it setup and working in DCS. But then I'm going to need to spend money on all the planes as I'm a huge flight sim nerd, I just haven't played them in many years. The last time I tried DCS though, I could not get the damn thing to work. When I throttled up, the joystick wouldn't work. Or something along those lines. I can't remember exactly. All I know is it was frustrating as fudge, so I gave up at the time and never went back. I believe I had a profile then, but I don't remember for sure. This time though I'm going to spend a bit more time trying to tweak it as I've been watching a lot of DCS videos and I really, REALLY want to get back into flight sims. I have an itch that really needs scratching!

I had the x55 for some time, I think its a great stick. Lots of buttons and such, I think for the prices, its a great option.

I use to have X55 but it was one of those with faulty throttle cables that ware off in a few months. Apart from that the button layout was great for Dcs and other games like EliteDangerous. Now I use sturdy Warthog, but heard good things about X56 as well. Didn't bought it as I fear of the similar quality control issue.

I've played 43 hours with the x56 so far and love it! The only issue is getting those black thumb sticks to work smoothly for my TDC and Sensor switch in the F/A-18. Any one know how I can do that?

Yes ..... :/ I have bought and x55 Rhino for elite dangerous and for DCS and the throttle cables inside went crap last year after about 500 hour so the buttons of the throttle handle stopped working I wanted to fix it by myselft watched a guide on YT and I took it apart and removed the faulty cables but I gave it up halfway and my hotas was left gathering the dust in a disassembled state so I stopped playing ED and DCS. But a month ago I watched the steam trailer of the 2.5 DCS update and I got so hyped that I said ♥♥♥♥ it.... I don't need those buttons anyways I just wanna play DCS :D so I put the parts back together and now I am happy with my X55 because the 2way switches on the throttle are very nice and the stick still feels good. Its a shame they put so cheap cables inside this X55.

Next time I think I will go for the warthog though.

That's akin to saying "That's the worst car in the world, because I owned one and it broke down... Get a Ferrari"

Buying a ridiculously overpriced joystick isn't the only available option, mate.
Although I'll admit that the x56 Rhino is even more ridiculously overpriced ^^

I think we can all agree that the mainstream joysticks are not as well made inside as we all would like... Woe to them if some company ever steps up! :/

TM Hotas Warthog owner -> trust me, don't look too closely inside!

Are you talking about the Seitek x56? There's a new x-56 by logitech, I recently bought it and it's really nice! Definitely an upgrade from the ♥♥♥♥♥♥ one from before

Add a curve to the thumbsticks in axis assign
