9X vs 9M?
I heard 9M is better but for what I read the 9X can be shot from better angles and is a newer model?

So which one is really better?

AIM-9M was introduced in 1982, AIM-9X in 2002. The AIM9X is better in every regard.

all depends how you use it tbh.

the M is the bog standard, tried and tested winder. great up close, from behind the target. the X has high off-boresight capability meaning you don't have to hold the target so close in order to get a lock. the X is the one you use with the HMS in the F-16 and F/A-18 because of this.

that said, seeker aside, they are the same warhead so cause the same damage IIRC

Both weigh somewhat same (around 90kg), have same-ish warhead, etc etc... Greatest difference is the steering and stabilizing. 9X has imaging ir, great advantage irl. And as mentioned, 9X in DCS is guesswork, so take it's capabilities with a grain of salt. I myself noticed one error with it. When shot to aircraft on ground it tended to go for the jet pipe. Due to improved seeker logic 9X would go more in the middle of the airframe to maximize hit propability. Made possible by imaging ir.
