A radar is very complex and requieres knowledge and correct inputs, to get the most out of it. E.g., the two numbers next to the box, that you lock up targets with, are the radar elevation, which can vary a lot and, if not set up properly, will simply not detect a target, if it`s flying too high or low for set elevation.
Here`s a german tutorial, primarly for the F-15C, but the explenation of the radar applies to pretty much every modern fighter.

Understanding how a radar works is easy, knowing how to operate it is another
It kinda ruins it throwing differently coded radars into the same mix for me. I've heard a pilot describe his 18's radar as not doing so well at finding targets, but once they got picked up and locked onto, he said they NEVER lost their lock.
That said, it is still a work in progress, but throwing a more realistic radar into a server with FC3 jets/radars just puts you at a disadvantage for using a more realistic sim model.
Why the sudden and dramatic change?
but it doesnt have TWS yet which kinda sucks, but it will come i guess! if i had a choice now i would always take F18 radar over the F15
