Thrustmaster T.16000M Hotas or Thrustmaster Warthog Hotas
I am considering upgrading my hotas as the one I got has a VERY short cable between the thrust and stick which make it impractical to use.

Was wondering what people though of the T.16000 vs the Warhog. From what I understand the Warthog is very good but painfully expensive. The T.16000m is cheaper, anybody tried it?

Edit also the Warthog doesn't have twist rudder which means I need to buy pedals, not something I am that keen to do if possible.

I have a full T16000 setup (Stick, Throttle, Pedals, HUDs). I love it and it has worked for all my needs

Is it these ones?

What are the HUDS? I have been looking at TrackIR as well but I have no experience in it but after my initial trials with A10C I think it is mandatory. Do you use TrackIR or something similar? Trying to get my head around what is needed.

Also for the stick & throttle what is the connection? I have a cheaper Thrustmaster hotas that has a very short inbuilt cable between them which makes it impractical to use.

I have the full T-16000 set and trackIR and it works perfectly fine for DCS. The connection I have is 1 USB for the stick and a second for the throttle. The pedals connect to the throttle by a built in cable so they technically become an axis on the throttle controller.

By HUDs do you mean the cougar MFDs? If so they are simply additional buttons. You can hook up screens and export screen data to them so they work as proper MFDs but I've not got anything like that personally.

Overall I'd say if you can afford it, and really REALLY want the realism in the A-10 then get the warthog. If you're not too bothered or if cash is tight, there is nothing at all wrong with the T-16000

Thanks, I don't mind the realism I just wanted a good stick that had variable length between the stick and thrust.

Are pedals neccessary?

I started with the full t16000 setup, kept it for about a year then upgraded to the Warthog. I was primarily flying the A10C at the time, and my friend also had it and highly recommended I just save up and get the WH. I'm glad I did. The build quality is superior, and of course the extra buttons make life so much easier. Not just in the A10, but all jets and helos. I love it and if at all possible for you I would say take the plunge and get the Warthog and some pedals.

Would Thrustmaster pedals be ok in that setup? The WH pedals are insane in price

I have the Tflight pedals with the warthog hotas and they work just fine in my setup. They have a small footprint too which fits my current space nicely.

Does the WH thrust have a good profile for the F-18?
ZeroReady Aug 13, 2019 @ 5:36pm
I use it in the A10C, AV8B, F14, Huey, and Gazelle. It has been amazing in all of those, sorry I can't speak to the Hornet. But I'm sure it's better than the 16000m.

Well I took the plung on the Warthog after going through some YT reviews. Also I have been studying the A10C vids and Chuck's guides and I think the WH will be really useful there. Looking forward to getting it.

Congrats, I'm really excited for you. You made the right choice. When you first take it out of the box you will understand.

Although you already choosed the WH, please keep in mind that this stick has no Z-axis. So you will definitely need pedals (you will need them anyway...;-) )

Yeah, noticed that from the reviews, so I got the pedals as well. Will miss the Z-Axis but will adapt. Hopefully all should arrive in the next week or so. That gives me plenty of time for study before I dive in.

Got the whole setup now, TrackIR, Warthog Hotas and some Thrustmaster T Rudders
All works great apart from the rudders, my desk is too low so I cannot really use them well and it only maps the up/down motion, will not accept press for rudders so not really useable, will need a new desk at some point, until then it will have to be KB. A shame because I would love to map the side hat on the thrust to rudder (controls the radio) but it won't accept it unfortunatly.

Otherwise great, can successfully start up the aircraft now, love the sound of those engines powering up.

for those who are yet undecided:
T16000m FCS
pros: good gear, good price
cons: the throttle is on a track rather than being a rocker and this annoys me

Warthog
pros: great gear
cons: expensive, does not have analog slew on throttle without modding
