What is the best choice to play this game?

I use trackir 5 when I want to make some cool videos because vive demands a lot of resources and as such I have to reduce settings by quite a lot, even on a 1080.

They're not really a valid comparison, because they work in completely different ways.

I play exclusively in the Rift, but it can make target spotting difficult, as well as reading cockpit labels. Not to mention colours can look a bit flat depending on environment and time of day. But you won't beat VR for immersion and depth perception. Especially useful for helicopter operations in tight spaces!

TrackIR is what i used when i first got DCS. It's great for what it is, but it doesn't offer what VR can.

Depends on your preferences and system specs. But DCS is the title that convinced me to get VR in the first place, and i don't regret it.
I'll never go back to 2d flying.

for me, VR is the way forward. ymmv!

I've tried going back to 2D flying and just can't do it. The graphics look epic, but my flying goes to s**t!

Just got TrackIR 5 myself, definitely a game changer if you stick to 2D.

I just switched from Track IR on a large projected screen to the Oculus Rift S last month, I can't go back to 2D flying now. I'm using a RTX 2080, it taxes my system but I'm getting decent results. I can spot targets at a distance and read all of my instruments clearly.

You really have to crank your neck around in ACM with VR but you get really good spacial awareness and your depth perception is greatly improved for landings and aerial refueling.

With the Track IR you can still max out your settings visually and get good head tracking, its a great option if you don't want to upgrade your GPU.

I tried the Vive Pro with Prepar3d and couldn't go back to 2D fly. Cheers

I don't wanna derail this thread, but I have to ask about your experience with the Rift S so far. I'm considering replacing my Rift CV1 with it later this year, but i've seen so many mixed reviews on it.

I had the CV1 and upgraded to the Rift-S. The difference in clarity is very good. Looks a lot clearer, but for me, i found the FOV to be slightly smaller and very annoying! Also, i found the colors and blacks to be dull and the 3D depth felt less than the CV1. . But you do notice the difference in the higher resolution, and reading the instruments is a lot easier - but dont expect it to be a complete upgrade from the CV1. I found it looked better on the CV1 with 1.8 SS, IMO. I've sent my Rift-S back and now looking into the getting the 'Valve Index' or 'Pimax' I'm fed up with having a small FOV now.

Interesting. May keep the CV1 for a little longer then. IDK much about the Index yet, and the Pimax is out of my budget lol
odd, I found the S to be a groovy upgrade.

not noticed any fov change.

I won't go back to my cv1.

horses for courses I suppose...

anyway, back on topic, trackir is cool and enables one to have owl neck type abilities.

if I couldn't have VR I'd use trackir.

Thank you guys, VR is a little expensive compared with track ir 5. and for me i think track ir is more than enough, im tired to always have to use my keyboard and mouse to look around, sometimes i do mistakes because of it even in formations

If only they increased the FOV a bit more, then i would be happy with it, even with its other negatives that i found. Been using the CV1 since its launch and think its time for a wider display to get a better sense of speed. Think Pimax is my best bet :)
2D is like looking at a ;picture. No matter what you do you always look like youre on the outside looking in. VR youre on the inside looking out.

Google trackhat! I use it since a while and i love it. Its the cheap track ir solution

I have both and if I had to pick only one it would definitely be TrackIR 5.
