DCS World Steam Edition

DCS World Steam Edition

Can you use Steam edition to install standalone?
Hello! So I downloaded the steam edition and when I went to start it, it just closed without even showing the icon on my taskbar.
My question is: Can I use the steam edition files that I downloaded to "install" the standalone one?
I am asking this because the standalone one worked for me.
Also can I play with my friend who has the steam edition, while I would use the standalone one?
Thanks for any help!

You can play standalone and steam so long as you are on the same version.

As for the installation, I don't think it works that way but can't be sure as I've never tried
cross "platform" play isnt an issue so whatever of the two you use you can play together (many popular DCS servers use the beta branch)

As to the install, hmmm, it could work if you used the correct directory and validated the files afterward but feels very heavy handed to me, I'd try to solve the close on launch issue personally.

May I ask why you need to use the steam version?

I am trying to switch FROM steam TO standalone. As for the reason it's the crashing on startup. It didn't happen on the standalone a couple months ago.
Thanks for the info on the "crossplatform"!
My mistake! :)

Hmmm, I find that more unlikely but again what do you have to lose! give it a go!
There is no need to copy files:

You can go on ED website, register there, link you steam account and "transfer" all your modules licenses to the standalone version free of charge (they will remain on steam too).

The standalone version will download them automatically at the next login (providing you logged-in with the same ED account linked to your steam account).
You actually can. Just have the steam version installed and download the installer for the standard version. Install the standard and it'l ask if you want to copy files from the steam install. I did it a few days ago.

Thanks! Gonna try it. If it works that would be easy.
Edit: Actually it didn't ask me if I want to copy the files. Guess I will download it from 0. Thanks for trying tho.

That is strange. I've done it twice since! I buy the modules on steam and bind them to standalone. I delete the steam version whenever the module has been installed. It's worked three times so far.
