I was trying the campaign missions for a bit of practise...
The mission had me always positioned on the default side of the carrier...
How do you get the blast barriers to activate?
My Wingman is on the left side of the usual default positioning...he cant move out of the way...the lining is through him LOL.
Landing seems OK.
Take off appears to be extra harder now on default position take off, and this is in campaign missions. I mostly restrict fuel to just 60-75 percent.
Even ramp take off is on default position with wingman on left side. I go and reposition further back only to notice the back blast shield not activating and my wingman is on my line of take off.
I am going to assume the Su-33 is still in Beta stage at this point...
Just to be clear...
I am using the default stable version 1.5.7xxx and not the latest 2.x versions. I dont know if the Su-33 is different in either of these versions...
I tried lining up the rear position and my wingman is on the left side front on the usual default position. He is in the way of my take off lineup and I end up colliding with him or more precisely, rip off his wings. I also did try rudder adjust and took off from the edge right side off carrier.
My wingman ended up crashing, though...
In the end, I have to either tweak the mission loadout to just carry 50 percent fuel. I am not skilled enough to tanker refuel and my Joystick isnt top of the line model.
I use the default version and no, I have not selected on any beta or alpha versions on the steam Beta tab. The FC3 Su-33 seems to now have the PFM model...the arcade feel is gone, so not the SFM. Landing is challenging and takeoffs are extra tough.
Su 33 seems more underpowered than the Su-27. Even with Empty setting and 70 percent fuel. It was still tough to take off, almost sunk in to the ocean.
I guess they gotta work more on the carrier mechanics to make takeoffs easier and the option of lighting in low light conditions, coz landing at night with no carrier lights is a pain.
I just hope they add some AG missiles on Su-33 along its PFM updates, coz as a Russian Naval fighter jet its got to have some AG missile. Currently, all the weapons its got is very primitive....No AG missiles or even fire and forget AA.
Now It seems impossible
The carrier is not revamped to fit the Su-33 PFM model.
Taking off in full load is just suicide at the moment...better to wait it out.
So far, Campaign missions like Sea Dragon is a waste. There was this other campaign called Heavy sky that lets you use regular land bases but thats removed.
Its fine when you don't have your wingman blocking the runway and he is not going to reposition...I end up clipping his wings.
While the campaign starts or if your are starting with wingman on carrier we always start on the front right side and the wingman to our left.
I fold my wings and reposition further back ....which also is aligned to the left and I am directly facing my wingman up front. So when I do take off, I end up clipping his wings, even if I do try to adjust with rudder on take off. He can't reposition....and If I add too much I slide off to the right side edge in a forced roll.
Thats what I thought...its the carrier not being compatible with the new PFM Su-33.
Yeah less fuel take-off is possible. But I am not skilled enough to connect with a tanker...I dont have a pro class joystick yet.
I Never piloted a real fighter plane ("piloted" a Robin 260i for a few minute in the air. as a "tourist" nothing to compare I think)
BUT if I can compare it to a car, I know it's much easier to stick close to another car with a real car (thus real gas pedal) that with the trigger of a Xbox controller... If I may compare with a little exageration to make my point
Maximal A/C takeoff weight (carrier is not moving, no wind) for 'short' RW at +15C is 27 ton, for 'long' - 32 ton.
