The Su 27 and its own respective variants do not have thrust vector. However, they can still do that famous Cobra maneuver. It can still cook the F-15C in pure close combat scenario.
Thrust vectoring engines are a mere extra add on. It was first incorporated in the Su-37 as tech demonstrator only. It saw official action in the Su-30MKI.
The Su-27 variant seen here is the Su-27SM variant...post Soveit era model.
Really? I thought the SU27 has thrust vectoring, I've seen some start up videos of the aircraft and the thrusters move up and down. Did you mean to say that DCS did not include it or the aircraft (in real life) does not have it?
What you saw in the videos was most likely the Su-37 which is a technology demonstrator and is not in production. Likewise the Su-35 (upgraded, modernised Su-27) doesn't have thrust vectoring. The Su-27, in DCS World or otherwise, does not have any of the advanced avionics of its later models.
That being said, it is still a very potent, agile fighter and a menace in the right hands.
Okay thanks for clearing that up :)
And I bought the aircraft :)
Have fun with it! Hopefully you'll learn it and put in enough time to want to get the Su-33 when it's updated. You're getting into DCS World at a really good time, a lot of new modules are in the pipe and being worked on by different developers!
That being said, I want to make you aware of the fact that the steam version acquires these modules slower than having the Standalone version provided on the DCS website. A major example being the Viggen and NTTR (DCS World 2.0) are still not available on steam because they are both in testing. What many people end up doing is they eventually move off of steam and switch to the standalone version, this way when a new module comes out, they can buy and fly day one. I will be doing this when the F-14A/B becomes available. Just so you know, use caution when purchasing the M2000-C and any other new aircraft modules (even the new campaigns I think, idk, I never bought one.) as the keys are now completely seperate, steam keys for steam, standalone keys for standalone. You should be fine with your Su-27 though. Hope you enjoy your purchase! Also, I reccommend flankertraining's youtube channel for learning the Su-27, he's got some videos the span across Flaming Cliffs 2-modern DCS World, his FC2 videos should still apply though, even though they'll look really old, the systems are the same, for the most part.
The Su-27 can beat the F-15C in close combat battles. It can do a lot of tight maneuvers without thrust vectors.
In Long range...you can say goodbye to the Su-27, as the F-15C advantage is always on long range, especially with those fire and forget active radar AMRAAMS.
However, the current gen Su-35S is being equipped with thrust vectoring engines. The oldest is the Su-30MKI which also has thrust vectors...only a bit underpowered than the current gen which is being installed on the Su-35S.
Happy simming! :)
Thank you for the advice :)
I'll check out his channel ASAP. Also, I will think about the switch to standalone. For now though I think I'll stick with steam version(going to buy FC3 when it comes for a discount) and learn the ins and outs of the sim and the planes. By then I'm sure that a lot of the modules that havent' yet been released will be available on steam.
Waow, I've yet to see the long range capability of the F-15. So far I've only played a few 'quick play' missions and a few training tutorials.
I love both the planes (f15 & su27) but I was hoping to experience thrust vectoring on the su, I guess I'll keep playing until DCS launch the su30 or 35.
Happy simming to you too! :)
You'll be lucky to see the Su-30. Its highly doubtful, though. The Russian Su 35S has only entered full service...too secretive.
You won't be seeing the Thrust vectors capable aircraft in a looong time for DCS. Its still secretive tech and DCS can only get its hands on, out of service models or very old yet still in limited service aircraft. Most of the tech is a bit secretive.
The F-15C in the USAF at current uses upgraded C model than the older C whch is seen in DCS....meaning its went through an upgrade plan.
Thrust vector technology is still maturing. Not all fighters got it. Even the US F-22 only got 2 dimensional thrust vectors versus the 3 dimensional in the Russian jets. Thrust vector engines are too much maintainance and costly plus its still just maturing only.
