Training "Landing - Easy" Impossible?
I'm trying to do the easy landing lesson for the SU-25, but it seems impossible. I get to within about 3 km of waypoint 2, but after that the range just starts increasing again no matter how well I follow the nav instruments. Not even the autopilot seems to be able to follow the waypoint.

We are talking about C-101 right?

Sorry, I forgot to say. No, this is with the SU-25. I'll edit my original post.

For the easy mission your Heading should start correct. Unless I forget the mission just fly straight till you see the Runway and bring her down slow.

You got brakes and flaps, slow down enough that you can bring the nose up and still lose altitude slowly and you will have a safe touch down.

As for Waypoints I think you want B3B mode, the yellow needle will guide you.

Happy landings :)

Will try this at some point soon, thanks ;)

Waypoints in DCS are not on the ground, they are in the air, and have assigned altitude.
When following a waypoint, make sure to cross it at the correct altitude.

Yeah, I'm following the assigned altitude in the top right of the HUD. And aren't the nav point in the HUD and the yellow bars on the other intruments supposed to correct for altitude, too? Like I said, not even the autopilot seems to be able to follow the route.

I played the mission and it works fine, you must be reading the instruments wrong. The yellow needles point to the course line intercept not the waypoint itself. It's a rookie mistake. imagine the course line is the highway in the sky, a straight line which guides you from one way point to the other. The bearing to the next waypoint is located on your HSI (horizontal situational indicator) as a white needle. This infomation is also displayed on the HUD. When you are on the course line and flying towards the active waypoint the white needle on the HSI (the bearing pointer) and the desired course line arrows (the two other white arrows) will all align perfectly. All you have to do is fly the course line and the waypoints will cycle automatically and the flight/navigation mode will transition to approach and landing modes as appropriate, at which time ILS infomation will be picked up and you'll ride the beam to touch down along the glide slope.

Happy flying :)

That's the problem though, I have everything aligned and as soon as the range to the waypoint hits about 3km, it just starts going back up again. And that still wouldn't explain the autopilot not being able to follow the route.

I'll see if I have time to try the mission again tonight.

The autopilot does not land the aircraft, it's only useful when stable at cruise altitude. If you require further help jump on a TS server and go for a practice flight. It works trust me :)

I'm not trying to land with the A/P, I don't even know where the runway is. I'm just trying to get to the 2nd waypoint (I think it's the second one).

My problem is that I start off ~15km from waypoint 2 after the instructor tells you to switch to it. I do this and start following the nav instruments, but as soon as I'm ~3km from the waypoint, the range to the waypoint starts going up rather than down. I've tried manually flying to it, as well as letting the A/P do it, and the exact same thing happens either way.

Had the same exact experience.

I just tried the tutorial and I am stuck too on the trigger for WP2.
VoidSixx Jan 16, 2017 @ 10:09am
I've figured it out!

So normally in the tutorial, he tells you to switch to nav waypoint 2, as he is explaining how to do it. He never says to switch back to waypoint 1, but I tried this anyway, and once I hit W/P 1, it changed to 2 (as expected) and, for whatever reason, it worked and I was able to follow the points correctly.

Thanks for the help, everyone :)

So, resurrecting old thread. Seem to have the same issue. Also this must sound dumb, but often when I 'almost' reach a waypoint, my distance to WP starts to increase.

Go into "instant action" on the Frogfoot and run the "Dusk landing at Mozdok" mission. It lines you up with the runway and you just have to land. The in-game tutorials for the SU-25T have pretty bad waypoints so I didn't use them much.
