KA-50 or another heli?
I want to get my first full fidelity module and am leaning towards helicopters.
I'm pretty much been choosing between the KA-50 and the UH-1H because the MI-8 doesn't seem combat capable and the I've heard the gazelle is very hard to fly.
not completly unopen to the gazelle and MI-8, but I think I'd prefer the others.

basically I'm wondering if troop transport is a cheap gimmick or if it's worth going for a worse heli to get crew capacity.

Well UH-1H and MI-8 are more for fun than for combat. And gazelle still needs a lot of tuning. So I suggest KA-50.

Forgot one thing. KA-50 is better for that what are you looking for. But it is full of autopilots and stabilisers. The UH-1 will learn you to drive any helicopter because it has no autopilots or augmentations.
Ka50 all the way, unless you have an affinity for vietnam utility helo.

I own both and while the UH-1H is hella fun, I'd take the functionality of the attack helo over the utility of the utility chopper anyday :P

It's strange, I had an easier time learning to fly the Huey over the KA50. Huey just felt more natural to fly while with the KA i was fighting the autopilot features all the time. But now the KA is my bae ... still a little more sluggish and less maneuverable but such a lovely and stable platform to unload hell upon convoys.
flying against AP will definetly make the KA50 feel like a brick thats trying to kill you.

when I learned KA50 (my first helo) I spent first 2 weeks either flying barely controllable or breaking my blades off, it wasn't until i had sometime just fighting it that i started to learn how to work with it.

anybody flying with the APS perma off is retarded too btw unless its for fun ofc.

It wasn't until I understood that the trimmer is actually an autopilot that it all sunk in for me. Flight Director is basically autopilot off, otherwise the bird will always try to return to how you last trimmed it, INCLUDING whatever the heading was!
ya the trimmer and understanding how to feed the AP the new heading as the one you want to track (if these are even the right terms)

thing is so steady in a hover.
To the KA-50 autopilot, read manual ;-) You don't need to fight with AP. Once you depress trim button, the AP is turned off until you release the trim button. You can also turn AP off with operational dampers by selecting FD mode on AP panel. End of OT.
well i can manouvre the ka50 perfect without any problems, auto pilot also works very easy and fine, hovers no problem, an when you go for a landing i mostly turn all autopilots or most stabilisers off, its the perfect heli to buy if you wanna have firepower with accuracy and speed when used right.
the module also has playable tutorials so u dont need to watch long boring youtube videos.
ya ka50 is very nice, for first helo i think its the smartest one to get of the bunch.

First of all, none of DCS helicopters are easy to fly ... but the least hard is the Ka-50. Keep in mind that you will need to have a throttle and a rudder in order to really be able to fly it as intended ... the real helo has joystick, throttle (actually named 'collective') and rudder at your feets.

Here take a look at what an experienced Ka-50 pilot can do with this craft ... its glorious:

the 'click' sound is when the pilot uses the trim system of the Ka-50.

Gazelle deserves some love. OP says it's hard to fly but it's actually not. Download Chuck's Guide, it has recommended curves that make it easily controllable. It also does not have an aggressively modeled VRS like the Huey, which makes the Gaz easy to land. Cockpit has enough switches to make it interesting to learn but not so many that it's intimidating.

What you're left with is a fun, nimble, attack chopper with three versions: anti tank missiles (M), rockets and cannon (L), and air to air (Mistral). The Gazelle is also the only ship with working multi crew. The campaign that comes with it is also pretty good.

Bu the multi crew in Gazelle need damn good update. Lot of things are badly synchronised like radios, targeting camera, e.t.c.
