Cry Of Fear Steam Fixes
Okay. So I have been searching for a long time for a fix to Multiplayer, I am using the Standalone version of Cry Of Fear, since I do not own HL. After installing a patch and probably messing around with it to try and fix the problem I recieved then another problem, it crashes on startup.
I will post what I have done so far, you can try it, as one of these MAY fix the problem.

I deleted the game and re-installed it.
-- For me, did not do anything, still crashed.

** THIS IS REALLY IMPORTANT THING TO CHECK FIRST. **
CHECK YOUR DRIVERS ARE UP TO DATE, ESPECIALLY YOUR VIDEO DRIVER!
To do so: Open Control Panel > System and Security > System
Look for Device Manager, which runs as admin.
Under (pc username) there would be something saying "Display Adapters" click the thing beside the name to open the drop down menu and you would see your video driver. Right click on it and choose update driver software.
It would say "How do you want to search for Driver Software?" select "Search Automatically For Updated Driver Software"
This problem can be caused by your video driver being outdated, but mines was up-to-date so the problem is still on the run.
**************************************************************************

I installed the 64bit User patch which was the patch to fix the crashing in the levels, since on startup the problem is a crash after the logo and upon loading the menu and such it doesnt respond, I installed it.
-- Nothing different.

Downloaded and installed the 1.5 patch. Steam doesnt always have the up-to-date version for certain games, so its probably best to check just in case and install, even if it may break your game. This patch was to make it up to date to play on servers.

---- Still Nothing.

Instead of running it in openGL mode " -gl " I ran it in " -d3d "
----- Nope nope nope.

Deleted saves and reset unlockables in case it was any conflict with the version of the standalone or corrupted data.
-- Nothing at all.

If any of these happen to work for you, kudos. If you have a suggestion of what to do that I havent done as yet feel free. I can also help with your problems somewhat if you comment.
P.S I check the actual cry of fear forums.

The steam version is 1.6, you're downgrading the game with that patch.

What doesn't work? You first said that the multiplayer doesn't' work and then that the game crashes. Is the game crashing after that clean reinstall you did?

And by multiplayer you mean the server browser or something else? The server browser doesn't work for anyone The devs are trying to fix it.

At first I was trying to get multiplayer to work. My friends cannot join the game no matter what I did. I even tried changing hosts, using hamachi, not using hamachi (port forwarding), nothing. I could not join the game at all.
I didnt mean the server browser. I know theres a problem with that already.

Most of the thread I am talking about the crash on startup and different things I did. Yes. Its still crashing. Everywhere I search it always says "refer to this thread" and the thread doesnt fix my problem at all.
Another thread on the forum states its due to bad settings. Everything is up to date, and I tried running it in 2D menu. Nothing works.
