Cry of Fear left me crying (help wanted :/)

Ok. So as a gradutation gift my family bought me a new laptop. So I thought i would go on steam and re-install some of my old favorites i haven't played since i switched to a Linux laptop years ago. As I was just browsing around the store I saw Cry of Fear and it took my heart by storm. I've always wanted to play it and now steam has it for free. I download it(which just for the record took 15 ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ HOURS!!!). After the long wait it was finally ready to go at midnight(no better time to play a horror game than in the dead of night). So I'm getting into it, having fun, questioning why I love anything that isn't Cry of Fear related, and just plain having a jolly good night. I give them credit for getting me with that jump scare in the beginning; no one gets me with jump scares, not even dead space. But then... in the dead of night, Cry of Fear did the worst thing it could have done to me... it crashes in the very begin of the game. It crashes everytime time i try to go through the door after you are told to look for the pad-lock combination. It always says something like "fatal error; not enough memory." I've tried googling it and this seems to be a fairly common problem, but i can't seem to fix it. I've tried everything like: making sure absolutley nothing else is running on my laptop and running Cry of Fear on the absolute bare minumim setting together. Nothing. I still get the same error in roughly the same spot. Can someone out there plaese help me with this so i can play Cry of Fear?

Try running it compatability mode for Windows XP SP2

ok. I'll try that, but it may not be for a little while. I just uninstalled and am now reinstaling it. But thank you so much, any help is much appriciated.

well, to be honest. It's loading a lot faster this time around. But I've already started, no turning back now. haha. But if it doesn't work in the end, then so be it. I'm still grateful for the help, it's the thought that really counts anyways. Plus, if i do rage out about it I'll just take me rage out in a game of God of War or something. I very rarely rage out on people. I try hard to mask my true emotion. well... before i get too side tracked. Thanks again. I'll let you know how it all turns out.

It's a fix for Single-Player, do not play on a online server with it.

I thought you needed half-life to run this game. It doesn't show u own half life on ur steam account. I don't know about this, but im pretty sure the last time i played this game it needed half-life

You need to run the game in english and from the launcher if you want to get rid of bugs you'll encounter later on
