Cry of Fear

Cry of Fear

Black screen glitch? How can I fix this?
Basically, whenever I play I get a black screen. I can still hear my footsteps and everything but I can't see. When I pause it however I can see everything. Please help?!

I'm playing the standalone version

Make sure no programs are running in the background when Cry of Fear is running (Anti-Virus, Windows Firewall, XFire, Skype, etc....).

Verify your game cache, you may have missing files or corrupted files (Steam > Library > Right-click "Cry of Fear" > Properties > Local Files > "Verify Integrity of Game Cache").

Run the game in Windowed Mode (Launch Cry of Fear > Check box "Windowed Mode" before hitting Launch").

I had the same issue with other HL mods (before the update). It was for the onboard graphic card (Intel sh*t). What gpu are you using?

I was playing around with the options because my brother was having the same problem and turning off screen blur under advanced options seemed to do the trick. I hope it helps.

Turn off Black and White effect, Screen blur, and Screen grain in your Cry of Fear options (Options > Advanced).

I am having a black screen problem as well. When I launch the game, I get a loading wheel (after the disclaimer and logos) and then I can hear the menu sound effects and background noises but I can't see what I'm doing. Things that I've tried so far: 1. Verified files through Steam. 2. Changed screen resolution from launch menu. 3. Closed the game with task manager and re-selected it after minimizing it. Please help.

OK GUYS...

I found the solution to my own problem. So if anyone else has my problem, the way to solve it is to launch in a windowed mode (drop down menu in launch window) and then change it to full screen once it opens.
