Cry of Fear

Cry of Fear

Low FPS at certain areas. Need Help.
So....title explains it all. The game drops in FPS mostly in the intro and that outside area with that plant thing that kills ya in one hit. I have done certain things, such as lowering the graphics options. Thanks in advanced.

I
get srandom lag areas too, but it seems to be mostly in the start before any enemies...

No idea why it happens though.

If you've already gotten past the CtD (Crash-to-Desktop) problems, then skip to
number 2. Otherwise:
1. Download the Crash Patch for 64-bit computers (only if you have a 64-bit OS)
from the CoF Moddb page and paste it into your CoF directory (just open your
Steam library and right-click on CoF, then go to Properties, Local Files tab,
and Browse Local Files to bring up the directory).
2. Verify integrity of Game Cache (same location as Browse Local Files),
because some files might be missing (having these files causes an immediately
noticible boost in performance of the game).
3. Mess around with in-game console a bit (dynamic lighting, textures, that
sort of thing; e.g. gl_dynlight 0 -> dynamic lighting = off).
And the last thing (and most important):
4. Boost the brightness (go to Advanced tab in game settings and change
Brightness Boost to a number between 0 and 0.3, like 0.125, which is my
setting). This way, you won't have to use a flashlight anymore!!! :D
Hopefully this helps!

I don't know man. After I verified integrity of the files the game doesnt even load. It just freezes when loading the 3d menu ( I cant turn it off because of the broken launcher)

Since some idiots here managed to necro a 10 year old thread i will take the liberty to say the main reason this game frame drops even if you have the latest hardware:

IT IS MADE ON AN ENGINE THAT IS 25 YEARS OLD.

GoldSrc is older than the pyramids. The fact that the game looks pretty good considering the engine it was made on it is amazing. The engine was basically pushed to it's limits. Be glad it doesn't crash all the time because logically it should have

There is nothing wrong with necro'ing threads. Asinine forum culture taboo has no place this long after the death of forum culture. If a problem has history, let it show.

Downtown during the intro runs like trash on my Deck - as low as 9 fps when I look in some directions, AT 800x500 :rbrb2:
